Calling all Delhi shoppers
Can anyone tell me the name and address of the shop in Palika Baazar which sells the beautiful kurta's (not sure on spelling)? Now there are dozens of shops in there that sell the kurta's along with lots of other clothing but this shop sells mainly kurtas from what I remember - the highest quality, hand embroidered ones, just dozens of different sytles and colours, mainly in cotton and silk. Many foreigners return to this shop to stock up when they visit.
To ensure I locate the correct shop I have to stress they really aren't the run of the mill ones that you can find almost anywhere in the baazar and the man who I think is the owner is a very nice person and all the staff are very helpful and courteous.
I desperately need the shop number, address and email address if anyone has a business card of theirs or knows of them. Any help would be much appreciated

Palika Bazaar, is within the inner circle of Connaught Place.
Easy to find but watch out for poo on the shoe trick!

Pallika Bazaar is the underground market in CP. Well known for fake DVDs etc. The one time I thought I'd go in it, the stench made me turn around. I go to Sarojini Nagar and GK and Fab India for Kurtis, for what its worth.
in vino veritas
I've never been to Delhi, so it's kind of crazy to be trying for this one. Just I got a hunch.

Must be Lal Behari Tandon, they specialise in Chikan embroidery and have stores at Palika Bazar and Hauz Khas in Delhi ... been around for many many years.

Nick-H, I overlooked your link previously - thanks for posting that one, very good suggestion though they look a little on the expensive side. This shop in Palika Bazaar would have very low overheads and has barely enough room to swing a cat and is just stacked to the ceiling almost with quality but reasonably priced stock. Everytime I wear their kurtas no matter if in India or at home, Indian people always compliment me on them and want to know where I bought them from!
Thanks again
Thanks again
Indiamad, glad I could help.
LBT used to be a big name in the early 80s, not many people would know about them now. They are still perhaps the best place to buy chikan work kurtas in Delhi. Fab India, the store that Nick mentions is one of the best places in Delhi to shop for clothes, very popular with locals and expatriates alike. You should definitely give it a try during your next visit to Delhi and check out their store at N Block in Greater Kailash I. They have an amazing collection that is not overly priced.
