Buying a Bullet in Mumbai
Hi all, I'm new to this site, although I have been lurking in the shadows for a while as a non member reading all the great info.
I have experienced India once before for 4 months in 2003. On that trip I saw most of the south on a trusty 350cc Bullet that I hired in Goa. My next visit in Febuary, I was thinking about purchasing a new Bullet, maybe a 500cc. Any ideas on where I should buy from In Mumbai? that is where I fly into. Also, can it be registered to me? I will also need luggage racks. any ideas on cost? Or should I just get a long term hire? Any advice would be much appreciated.... Cheers, T |

I purchased a 500 some months back in Chandigarh, no dramas as I had a residential address. Problems arise when using hotel addresses so this is the biggest consideration.
India exports Bullets that are far higher quality than what is available here! Obviously very much dearer but meet EU and US standards so if one is looking to take one back home be prepared for problems when importing. Bullets are kind of hand made, not precision engineered production bikes. They have all sorts of problems to work through until they settle down to feeling really good. Expect both minor and major surgery on the motor while under warranty thankfully and frustrations amid the pleasure of the ride. So buying second hand is at times a good option as is long hire but a 500 will always fetch a good price for resale as 90% of sales are for 350's and you could almost exchange your 500 for a brand new TB 350 and get some change in the deal. |
