Unhappy Burma Star

hi All,

My grandfather recently passed away.

Among his belongings we found a star shaped bronze medal with "Burma Star" written on it.

I keep thinking about this medal and how much it may be worth

Does someone have any kind of information on this. Is this a gallantry award or something ?

How much would this be worth now ?

Cheers,
Jay

A little late on the reply...but have you looked at Ebay.com. There are quite a few listings showing the value and it varies depending on condition and the printing on the medal.

The British Burma Star was awarded to British and Colonial Armed Forces which served in any part of Burma between December 11, 1941, and September 2, 1945.

It's not extremely valuable (a few dollars) but is probably something worth keeping just for the historic family value.

Here is an interesting link on the history of it http://www.nzdf.mil.nz/medals/warrants/h14-reg.html
