Thumbs up Boys Had The Fun

Motorcycle has been my fantasy for a long time. I wanted to drive the machine since when I was in 9th standard. I got my machine about 4 years ago and I’m riding it in the city since then. A biking tour has been my secret dream for these days. At last, after a long wait, I got the opportunity to go for a bike tour. My friend Manas got interested about biking tour after seeing a TV programme. Both of us decided to go for a bike tour to Digha, a beach town of Bengal. Another friend, Master, joined us and according to his suggestion, the destination was finalized to Bangriposhi, A place in Orissa, 230km from Kolkata.

I was much exited. It’s a dream come true and all it happened within just 12 days. I got my bike serviced and was ready to heat the road.

February 4th, 0535 hrs: I kick started my bike and started my dream journey. It was dark yet and all roads are empty. A chilling wind was embracing me piercing my windcheater. Slowly the dawn came up with daylight and I did not need the headlight any more when I was crossing the Vidyasagar Setu.

February 4th, 0615 hrs: I reached a place scheduled for pickig up Master, A few km ahead of Kona Expressway and NH-6 Crossing. We reached Alampur where Manas joined us. I entered a patrol pump to get some fuel. Now Master is pillion of Manas. At around 0630 hrs, both the machine roared to their destination.

February 4th, 0730hrs: sipping into hot tea at a road side tea stall near Bagnan. We faced some dense fog om the way. The sun is getting stronger, hope there is no fog ahead.

February 4th, 0930hrs: reached Lodhashuli, a place where road bifurcates to Jhargram. Till Kharagpur, NH-6 was just like a foreign highway……smooth, wide, lined, properly marked and divider between up and down way. We even did some stretch at 90 kmph. There after it was traditional 2-lane Indian highway with lots of trucks around. The road condition is not bad. We took long break, had our breakfast. And we hit the road again around 1030hrs.
Untill now we were driving through the plains of Bengal. Now we are driving through a forest. Even the color of earth has changed to red. After crossing the forest, we found a changed landscape…….vast empty lands, red earth and small bushes here and there.
We crossed Boharagorha, from where road to Ranchi bifurcates ………………….then a checkpost at Jamasole…….and reached a place from where road to NH-5 Bifurcates. We followed NH-6.

February 4th, 1200hrs: reached our destination, Bangriposhi. Found a room at Panthanivas of OTDC. It is sad to see the poor quality of maintainance of such a vast compound. The restaurant was not open. We went to road side Dhaba for lunch after taking shower. Then it was time for some rest, feeling tired enough.

February 4th, 0330hrs: went for the famous Bangriposhi Ghat. We got the taste of some mountain biking……..there was a temple………….a gorgeous view of plains down. We even did some dirt road biking to find KanchindaForest bungalow.
The kitchen staff refused to open the kitchen and give us food at night. Very annoying………..anyway the Dhaba solved the problem.

February 5th, 0830 hrs: Manas got a flat tyre…………getting it fixed by a roadside mechanic. We hit the road at 0900 hrs. and followed the same way back.

It was total 520 km. of riding in just two days.

Sorry......no photos.
what Bikes?..........Mine was Splendor and Manas had the Pulser 150 DTSI. All though Splendor worked very well, IMO, Pulser is fabulous for cruising.

Thumbs up Great!!!!

ToD, congratulations!!!! That’s a great trip. Bangriposi was not a very common tourist destination but creadit goes to the great writer Buddhadev Guha. “Bangriposir dui raat” did the magic and I came to know it is a beautiful place.
Congratulations once again.

Thanks Cliff and Somnath,
Enjoyed my first motorbiking very much.
Anyway, Bangriposi failed to be "A destination to be recomended", not even as off-beat trail
