This will be meaningless to many non-Indians: I've edited the thread title to make it clearer.

Even those who have spent sleepless nights channel-hopping in Indian hotels might not recognise that DD is Doordarshan, India's publicly-owned Television network.

Please tell us (who don't now) more about this particular program?

(I was reading the other day, by the way, that, long neglected in favour of the glitzy private channels, DD is gaining popularity again for the quality and lack of sensationalism of its news reporting)

@Nick-H

"Bharat ek Khoj" is based on a book "Discover of India" by Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru . It traces Indian Histroy from Indus Valley civilisation to Freedom Struggle. This TV Show is best know classic made by Shyam Benegal in around 1988 or so .

The show is narrated by Roshan Seth dressed as Nehru has all those actor in their your age (who are famous now) like Om Puri etc..

Infact the title and ending track of this 52 episode tele serial is great hym from Rig Veda ...

If you do google on Bharat ek Khoj , you will see how many Indian are waiting for DVD to get released and ready to pay any price for that...infact we have founded a online community to get the episode and share...

Hope that clear some of ypur doubts..

The title track was really amazing..I was only a 6-7 years old at that time...but that music still haunts me..I still remember the tracks goes something like this : Shrishti se pehle Jal nahi tha, antriksh bhi nahi, aakash bi nahi..

It is directed by Shyam Benegal.

Book is great if you are interested in history.

I personally like his "glimpses of world history" better. world history for kids(and teens)in a most lucid and interesting manner possible.
