I'm surprised you need to ask.

I don't know about bhang shops but I couldn't get away from people trying to sell me dope when I was in Mumbai. Arthur Bunder Rd is full of blokes whispering 'smoke? smoke?'. It's a bit of a pain in the arse, to be honest.

I was told bhang shops are organized by the city government as a concession/monopoly. Unlike people surrpetitiously selling ganja on the street, bhang shops are legal and open. I have very recently purchased a small bag of 'smoking bhang' for 14 rupees at one such shop in a small town in Rajasthan. I was told that smoking this herb is perfectly legal, whereas ganja is not. That I could not verify. But the shop is certainly beyond suspicion.

THis has been dealt with on other threads ... don't think anything cannabis-related is legal if you are not a local ... you won't find gov. bhang-shops in Mumbai ...

Unhappy

On the whole Charris is a North Indian thing, not the kind of thing you could rely on so far south. Maybe you could buy some ghee or dhoop for 800Rs if you're lucky.

There are lots of places to score Charris in the North, but in my exerience this becomes more of a scam the further South you go.

Not every State allows Bhang. Does Bombay....?

By the way, It might just be me, but 95% of the bhang I've tried has been utter shite... I could get more stoned smoking a banana leaf.

Charris comes from the Mountains, Best go there for a good result.

NEVER EVER EVER BUY FROM SOME ONE ON THE STREET!!!!!! Think; are they selling quality..... Think; do they work for the old bill...... Think; would you do this in your own country......

I should have said "city governments", not referring to Bombay. I would not agree with the bold statement of mr baldy. Bhang is cannabis related. I've never heard of a foreigner being nabbed for drinking a bhang lassi. The threads that i have read do not discuss smoking bhang, if indeed, that was what i bought for 14 rupees from the government shop. Maybe the government was illegally peddling ganja? Who knows?

In ORISSA, RAJESTAN and UTTAR PRADESH I know Bhang can be sold in WEED form, but mark my words it's rubbish.
Hundreds of seeds and stalks etc......
In the right season you can pick better stuff than this from the side of the road. And not many people stoop that low.
You'd be laughed out of town in most countries if you passed that off as weed for smoking (which isn't it's purpose or reason for it's weird legality)
But in a Gatchuk Cookie or Lassi it's quite a different story.
I made Sag Aloo once, but used Bhang instead, of the Palak. Worked a treat and tasted okay too.

Folks,

All these things are illegal. If caught you may landup in serious trouble. It's a serious offence punishable with long impresonment etc. Dont take it lightly thinking that everything is managable in india. There are any number of people (both forign & indian) languishing in the jails for long term imprisonment.

If all these things are are legal, why should someone come and ask you secretly in some code language and all??

It's all together a different thing what people are selling as may be the lassy and with paan etc.

Dont get into anything if it looks fishy or doggy.

I'm not an expert to say what is avilable where. But i should say drugs are not uncommon in india. There are even free syringe programes run by agencies to prevent the spread of AIDS.

In the UK , Netherlands, Switzerland, bits of Germany, etc...... the pot laws are pretty relaxed, or almost non-existant. But this isn't the case in Asia as a whole....
Soz, Beach if I was being random.... Must be the weed. Ha Ha!

I thought bhang was pot. What is the difference between bhang, pot(buds), hash, and charras?

Dazed and Confused?

Bhang lassi is tolerated, not legal. If you think you are immune as a foreigner think again ...

lots to learn, so little time

With a whole world of it out there, it is really impossible to compare.
That's what makes it worth the wait for good stuff.
Take care, and don't use Tobacco. Nasty stuff!
