 | art supplies...? hmmm so i dont know how many of you would know this howeverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr art supplies: where can i find em? do all major cities have art supply stores? more specifically, the ladakh area.. i imagine leh doesnt have an art supply store..? unless it does.  oil paints, oil pastels, paper, canvases are they cheaper/more expensive/same? trying to figure out what to bring in terms of supplies.. (im staying in one place for several months) thanks   |

I think you should bring your own when it comes to art supplies, I could imagine that major cities would do have it, but of course, you won't be sure if they have the brand you are looking for. It would be great if you kept a set of "tube watercolors" while you travel... since watercolor is the handiest to bring wherever. India has fantastic silk cloths to do artworks from... As well as locally made recycled paper.. you should try that!

| I was talking to an American artist one day who told me he'd just been to an art shop in the complex accross the road and that it was the best in India. That's Chennai. If we've got decent art shops, I would think other cities have. |

| I wouldn't count on finding much in the way of art supplies in Leh. There are photo shops, but actual art supplies are a pretty specialized commodity which I don't think you are going to find there - at least not in abundance, if at all. Also, remember that Ladakh is quite remote and goods that are brought in from elsewhere are likely to be more expensive than they would be in someplace like Delhi, for example, so even if you could find some art supplies they might cost you more. You should just plan on taking whatever supplies you'll want or need with you. |

| You would find decent art supply stores in most of the major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai but definately not in Leh. GET oil pastels if you can. You will not get the quality you get back home even in New Delhi. Oil paints are available though. |

| You can get turpentine or solvents in most places, and paper always, though of dubious quality, but outside the biggest cities, art supplies are basically non-existent. Bring anything that you can't live without, even if it means an extra bag to lug around! And I hope you'll post your art where we can see it! |
