apartment for rent in karnataka or tamil nadu?

Hi everybody,
we are currently travelling through southern India by tandem. We started in Mumbai and made it to Ratnakiri so far.
During the FIFA soccer world cup in June / July we want to stop for a while and watch as many matches as we can.
Therefore, it would be perfect to find an apartment or flat for rent – not too expensive, but with some space, cable TV, terrace or balcony, fridge etc.
First, we thought about staying in Goa, but are in seriously doubt about the monsoon – so maybe it is better to leave the south-western coast.
Does anybody have any experiences if it is possible to rent anything like this for 6 to 8 weeks at a nice place in Tamil Nadu or Karnataka? The best would be a city that is not too small, has some bars & shops and nice surroundings for small bike trips (Pondicherry? Mysore? Bangalore? Anything else?).

What can you tell us about the weather at these places from the beginning of June to the beginning of July?
