Anyone in Delhi going to Amritsar? Hotel?

Hello

You may see m freakout in Delhi post on here as well.

Is anyone travelling to Amritsar in the next few days? If so I could really do with the company on the train ride.

Also can anyone reccomend a cheap, but safe, hotel or guest house?

Hi Andy, Saw your other post, hope you've managed to get a grip of things Delhi's not as bad as your mind is telling you & i,m sure that when you return to Delhi you will love it & wonder what all the fuss was about, this is the normal procedure for most people. There is a very nice guest house in Amritsar called Mrs Bandharis its in the cantonment details are in the lonely planet if you get the 5hr express then it won't be too bad because this is quite a posh Indian train i think your meals are included if you go 1st class but whatever you do travel second class non a/c at some point in your travels because this is the best way to see a part of real India which you will really enjoy & always remember once you are use to things. Have you thought about going to Dharamsala 1st instead it is the safest most relaxed place you could head for & you could do Amritsar afterwards if you decide to go there instead go through Mcleod gange to Bhagsu & stay at the seven seas it's very nice & peaceful the owner is called Suri tell him you are a friend of Robert from the u.k. if you have any prob's he will help you. You may be getting use to Delhi by now but if not then try & think of it as a game & eventually you will start to see the funny side of it all the game in Delhi is the locals can tell when you are fresh to Delhi & they know they only have so long to extract some money from you before you wise up they will try any means they can to win the game but they are definitely not a real threat & they do have a sense of humor it is all done very tongue in cheek. Try to lighten up a bit & joke with them & your experiences will change for the better for example if they say to me How long have you been in India? I reply all my life i was born in Kashmir would you like to come & stay on my houseboat for free!! By the way if any Kashmiri says this to you definitely say no. If you are in Delhi a few more days try the rooftop restaurant at the metropolis i'ts at the far end of pahar gange you will meet lots of other travellers there. C'mon Andy chillout & have fun. kk

Do go to Mrs. Bandharis Guest House in Amritsar! Went there 45 years ago after sitting on the Ind-Pak border for 6 hours on the hottest day of my life. There were continuous mangoes coming to her kitchen table that day, big juicy ones, the biggest of my life. Some of my most vivid childhood memories.

Glad to see it is still highly recommended.
