A nip in the air & a riot of colours

Yesterday I went over to our local weekly open air vegetable & fruit market which I do often. The approaching winter has turned the market in to a riot of colours. The small size cauliflowers brought fresh from the farms on the river bank are white with a tinge of yellow, its leaves dainty & green. The radish is like shining ivory & the capsicums & peppers glistening green. The spinach leaves are unblemished & the dark orange carrots with green shoots so sweet in taste. Mountains of New potatoes from the hills have come.
Ripe Papayas & heaps of Apples of many varieties are plentiful. Oranges are neatly arranged like pyramids, the great Nagpur variety with warty skin but sheer nectar inside.
This is the time the cauliflowers & cabages are most tasty. So decided to cook Kamala Phulkopi and have it with Lutchi for dinner. Literally translated it means cauliflower curry cooked with oranges. Oh yes it turned out great & while the family was devouring Lutchis as if there is no tomorrow loaded with the florets dripping with the heavenly curry; I for the nth. time laid my proposal to buy a Bose home theatre system this Diwali. Except for the slurping sounds that came from the other three members no one said anything. There is a proverb in Sanskrit that goes like “Mounang sammati lakhshanam” which means Mum is another word for YES!

You are making me "homesick",the markets with the vegies, fruit and spices will always stay in my mind.I attempted to make Rogan Josh yesterday, just like we tasted in Srinigar ,edible but something missing and nothing like the original.I guess we will just have to go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What went wrong with the Rogan Josh? Did you use Paprika? The meat cuts must be large preferably from the loins with fat. Add some ground blanched almonds to the gravy. The dish is named after the glowing red colour & the floating oil of the gravy in Persian.
Better luck next time.

Wink

It sounds like you might have had the culinary distraction in mind when you mentioned the Bose system. What a fine market picture you have painted!

Yes I used the euphoria that gets you when you eat something wonderful & I have the system at home, no one is complaining.
