I have searched these forums for help on electrical plugs in India, but the only answers I have found are converting from the Australian plugs. Could someone tell me if I can get a converter for use with the English (3-pin square) plugs easily enough when I get there, or indeed if it is possible to pick one up before setting off?
Thanks in advance, Tom. |

Do you have Radio Shack where you are? Even Boots might have adaptors. Call SOAS and ask them -- maybe they have them in the bookstore. Call a travel bookshop and ask about them.
My local hardware store had some. You should be able to find them nearby -- not all your countrymen stay home! ![]() |

londonboy47, your questions aren't really stupid, so how about just using a real subject in that headline?

Londonboy. I've found UK to Indian roundpin plug converters in plenty of places in India; computer shops often have them, and even smaller electrical stores in largeish towns, although the contacts somtimes need a little bending to persuade them to work. you can get them eith way; Indian to UK or UK to Indian price isnormally 100-120 Rs. If you want better quality try Maplins electrical shops in London (cheaper than Tandy); theres one in Stratford e15 and one on Holborn halfway between Chancery lane and Holborn tube. Price should be 1 pr 2 pounds.

Good tips, thanks
Thanks for all the info. Julls, I think I will get one over here before leaving, just to be on the safe side, cheers anyway.
Cyberhippie, Yeah, I know what you mean about airport prices, but I suppose if you can't get something anywhere else you got to pay it sometimes, cheers. Neoncarrot, Good tip about maplins I had forgotten about that place, I will try there this weekend, thanks. Thanks once again all for taking time out to help. P.S. WWUSA, sorry. |

plugs
If the polarity don't matter just cut the plug off before you go then buy a two pin plug for a few rupees.
You can then rewire your gear when you get home. Most gear is not earthed these days - just double insulated. Whats it for anyway? |

For backtobom
Hi backtobom, The converter plug is just to recharge my laptop, I write for pleasure and have decided to take a laptop instead of scribbling on bits of paper and then having to type it in upon my return, as normally happens.
