I saw these assembled vehicles in UP-Haryana region-found in large number, powered by a diesel generator and assembled using spares of multiple vehicles... Do anyone know their names and have any additional details?
I blog at enidhi.net, covering travel, automobile and reviews.

Looks like a tempo to me (or what are those larger rickshaws called?), but here used as a freight carrier.

as u have correctly written in ur first post "powered by a diesel generator and assembled using spares of multiple vehicles"

so its the desi transport... though the matter of fact is that the legal people also use this for the transportation

Whoever is behind this (mechanic who assembled all these) must be a genius-had his talent been spotted and encouraged with proper funding he would have been running a leading automobile company by now...

I guess total cost of this vehicle doesn't exceed a lakh.. Why pay 4-5 lakh for a similar branded vehicle?

My estimate of 1 lakh was for a new vehicle with a new generator, new set of tyres etc... anyway innovative people...

Kamal I guess you estimate if on the shorter side. These guys actually use the Chasis of a jeep. And there is no question of legality or illegality over here. They are simply not listed anywhere and are not mentioned in any law. ..

They are very common in north India, and have been around for years now.

these are jugads or also some times called marutas. These vehicles can have a no. of types of engines right from jeep matadors etc. to the kirloskar diesel engine sused in pump sets. And are generally fitted with gear boxes and proper braking arrangements. The one shown above can some times cost 1+. But there are cheaper MODELS also having one platform on four wheels with engine fitted on the same level platform and driver squatting next to you, the ride on these can be horrible on the narrow bumpy roads.

Jugad Garis

these vehicles are called jugad garis or simply jugad in UP..... the engine is most times a generator which runs on kerosene which sells at half the price of diesel in black markets.

these vehicles are not officially recognised as vehicles and I had also heard that in case your car get hit by a jugad gari you won't get any insurance because you are hit by something that does not exist on paper.

these vechicle have very poor brakes and so beware ..........in case you find a jugad gari following you better run fast
