Udaipur to Ahmedabad

I need to go to Ahmedabad from Udaipur on Dec.13.
I've enlisted a travel agent and they suggest flying, with a connection in Delhi???? (six hours) This does not make any sense to me.
I checked flights through Mumbai via makemytrip.com and there seem to be nothing avaialble unless you switch airlines in Mumbai.
Sounds so difficult as the distance is only 252 KMS.
I need to be there for a wedding and I won't have time for delays, missed flights, etc. Would I be better of to use a car and driver?

What a weird travel agent. Can somebody shed any light on this idea cos I can't see why they'd say that?

Car and driver seems the best idea to me- book em through yer Udaipur hotel.

Train is super-long but also possible.

You can take a train UDZ ADI EXPRESS from Udaipur 19:45 pm and reaches AHMEDABAD sometime early morning.

ah I mis-read the same train start from AHMEDABAD midnite and reaches Udaipur morning 7 or 8 am. Also there are lots of buses the so called luxury buses that you can take. If you staying at a hotel someone at the hotel can help you with the bus or train.

the road between the two cities is mostly very good, and smooth - 4 lane divided highway. We drove most of it last month and our driver, who drove to ahmedabad to pick us up and had driven the route many times says its a 3 hr trip. Maybe a bit more would be wise to estimate.

the train connection is very slow - Id go with a car, definitely if you can swing it financially. the country you pass through is amazing and there are a couple of interesting sidetrips, dungarpur and Rishabeo if you have time (though you probably dont)

Driver is staring to sound like the best option.

I am most likely having a driver for part of my Rajasthan tour.
Still working it all out.
What is the average cost per day for a car and driver?

Ours averaged out at around 3000 rupees per day for an Innova from a very good agency - but the price will depend on mileage, tolls and other factors - if your driver has to drive to get to or back from your pickup point, you will pay. Once you have a plan, you should get some quotes from agencies.

There are plenty of decent private A/C buses plying between Ahmedabad and Udaipur. I took one a few days ago in the other direction. It left Ahmedabad at 3pm (on time) and arrived in Udaipur around 7 or 8pm as I remember. The road is good the whole way. Cost was INR 300.
