Trying to Price a Mahindra Scorpio Auto

Greetings,

Making the move to Hyderabad where an exiting expat is wanting to sell me her 2006 Scorpio Turbo2 CRS (I think that's right). Is there an online source where I can get an idea on what this car might be worth? Google has let me down.

Thanks,
VP.

How much does she want? Find out how much a new top of the range is from a Mahindra dealer. Her new price will have included lifetime road tax.

Google 'used cars India', quite a few sites show up.

just one
http://www.indiacar.com/buyused.asp

scroll down and select your model. Mahindra Scorpio has 10 listings.

She's asking $13K USD or around 560,000 IR. She says's it's loaded with low miles and she just paid a years worth of insurance and bought new tires. I'll get a chance to check it out first...but let me know if you think it's a good deal or not. I'll check on the website Capt mentioned and with a local dealer too.

Insurance, only 3rd party insurance is mandatory.. and doesn't cost much. Does she have comprehensive insurance (which covers the car itself)?

Curious about the tyres. Why should somebody change the tyres in a one year old low mileage car?
Unless, of course, they were upgrading to fancier tyres and had money to throw ... but then they would preferably have done it at the time of purchase and paid the difference.

Tires are changed mostly to hide any alignment issues the car might had, here is an article on buying a used Scorpio

Indian English.

Fully Loaded in English means it comes with every option and additional accessory in the book.

In Indian English, for example, fully loaded with leather steering wheel cover means ---- its got a leather steering wheel cover.

I just scratched my car today.

On a pillar in my own yard

Not the new car, I think.

But the first scratch on a new car.. is like the first time a lady dumps you ... really hurts.

Here, more than anywhere, you should ask yourself --- why does the seller want to sell it?

There is very little of the 'new-car-every-year' culture compared to UK.

And a one-year old will probably be so expensive you might just as well buy brand new for just a little extra.

She's an expat who works for my company and is having to return unexpectedly to the States due to an illness in the family. Given that we both work for the same company, I honestly don't thing she's trying to screw me over. Regardless...I'll have a chance in a few days to see the car in person and check it out thoroughly before I make a decision. Sounds like the price is right for a 2006 if it's in good condition.

Then that sounds like the right circumstances!

But second-hand cars here are expensive --- third-hand are much cheaper, so if you are at all concerned about how much you will get back when your turn comes to pass on the vehicle, then I'd still recommend to buy new.

Automatic my be a an option. 4WD is an option. I chose not to have it.(more moving parts to go wrong). Tyres are cheap. Worn tyres may only be tracking. If you want a price just ask around and go to a dealer to see what they're giving and what they're asking. It's the same as any used car market in the world.

expect around 20% depreciation per year on teh cost of a new vehicle.
So ,if its a genuine case, the 5.6lakhs is gud enuf.
BTW by "new tires" ,she must have meant to say that the tires are still new as the vehicle is still new
