Trichy to Chennai by bus

Hi !
I would like to travel from Trichy to Chennai in March, as I'll be arriving in Trichy and have to catch a flight from Chennai to Bangalore 6 days after !

This if my first trip to India, so I'm thinking about spending a few days in Trichy first, to acclimatize and get used to ... everything ! That's why I would prefer to catch a bus from Trichy to Pondicherry, spend one or two days there, and then another bus from Pondicherry to Chennai. I'm not really keen on booking right now a train for a specific date from Trichy, because I would like to take my time the first few days, and jump off a bus when I'll feel ready to do it !

So, is it a good thing not to book a bus ticket, and buy it in Trichy when I'll be ready to do it ? Are travel agencies or bus tickets reservations easily available in Trichy ?

The Trichy to Chennai Semi - Deluxe SETC buses are frequently avialable and in most cases do not require advance reservation.
