Travel in Rajsthan - Buses, Car

Hi

I will be travelling to Rajasthaan shortly and was looking for information on luxury tourist buses available in Rajasthaan. I am looking at travelling between Jaipur, Jodhpur ,Jaisalmer and Udaipur.

Could someone please point me to resources available ( websites) on this. Personal experiences in terms of comfort on these buses and methods of booking would also be very much appreciated.

I would also be thankful if someone could provide some recommendations for good, reliable car rental companies operating in Rajasthaan area.

Thanks

The 'luxury' tourist buses i.e. private buses out our way, are not the spotless well-maintained ones you would expect, mits. However, they are o.k. One thing that happens with them however if you take day trips is that they will pick up extra passengers along the way and the buses end up very crowded with folks leaning against you if you have an aisle seat.

One suggestion might be to take the government bus from Jaipur to Jodhpur in the evening - there is a good bus for this, both sleeper and pushback seats available in it. From Jodhpur hire your car. (If you were thinking of going to Pushkar, the bus trip is not too far from Jaipur and is easily done in the day. From Pushkar take another bus to Jodhpur. Both these trips are 4 hours or less).

When in Jodhpur either ask the people where you are staying to recommend a good driver for you, or go yourself to some of the agencies near the railway station. Rajasthan Tours and Travels, Solanki Tours are a couple I often recommend because I see them coming this way and the people using them seem satisfied. Another reliable car owner is here www.rajput-adventures.com. Hiring your car out of Jodhpur makes good sense because you have to pay for the full round trip even if you leave it at Udaipur. It will be cheaper for you this way.

With the car at this point you can then venture into off- the- bus- routes
and stop for photos at any time etc. Be sure to see Ranakpur and Kumbalgarh on the way to Udaipur if you have time.
