| Road Transport From Kalka to Shimla Hi I am planning trip to Shimla in Mid-Jan 06. I will alighthing at Kalka in the evening around 4.30. Being the winter is it safe to drive to shimla in the evening. Secondly what are the transport option available at Kalka Rly Station. Thank you in advance. |

| There are share taxis from Kalka to Shimla. The distance is 96 kms. and is normally covered in three hours. However, please ascertain that the highway is clear, before beginning your journey. January is a month of snowfall and it is not at all uncommon for the highway to be blocked at times.

| Hi Shimla thanks for your reply. I have also heard about the toy train that runs between kalka & Shimla. How easy it is to get Toy train ticket on arrival or do I have to book ticket at original destination. |

| I did not mention the toy train as you said you'd be reaching Kalka around 16=30 and I do not think the toy train operates at this time or later, till next morning. If you wish to travel by the toy train, you'll have to spend the night at Kalka/Parwanoo and take the early morning Shivalik Express. You may need to book in advance for this particular train. For the other trains, advance booking for a journey in January is not necessary. |
