Road between Kochi- Mysore

Just how "rough" is the car trip between Kochi- Ooty- Mysore? We're planning to take this route in Jan with our 2 yr old but she and I both get terrible travel sickness Our daughter usually bounces back pretty fast but if I get really sick it seems to spark a migraine and take a couple of days to recover. I have heard that this road trip is unbelievable and I would be soooooo disappointed if we got really sick! We had a great time driving (or being driven) around Rajasthan earlier this year but the roads weren't at all windey.

How long does the journey between Kochi and Ooty take- including a couple of stops for the toddler ?

The journey from Kochi to Ooty takes about 7½ hours by car.

You can stop off at The Residency in Coimbatore for a wash and freshen up and a meal.

After Mettupalayam the road starts climbing up the Western Ghats. There are about 30 hair-pin bends on the way!

Because of the steep climb to Ooty, the road is slow - and if you have a good driver he will avoid the potholes and bumps and make your journey far more pleasant!

The views are fantastic, so don't be tired and fall asleep!

The road from Ooty to Mysore passes through the Madamulai Wildlife Sanctuary - it is another memorable drive that takes about 3 hours. There is a reliable company in Ooty that has cars and drivers - again, let me know if you want the contact details.

the mysore-ooty road wasn't so bad the last time i was on it (pre-monsoon of this year).
