This is our first trip as backpackers, because we usually travel on our bikes. Cycling is a bit different, you feel free to go anywhere at anytime (except at night, of course) and to stop in the middle of nowhere gives you the chance to meet people and know places you wouldn't otherwise. That's why we would like to rent a motorbike to visit Rajasthan. Is it possible? Did anybody rent one?

Which month r u planning to ride around Rajasthan? 'Cause its pretty hot right now.
Yes it is possible to rent motorcycles. Look up www.lallisingh.com for more information on renting an enfield from Delhi. I have heard about him from people who have bought bikes from him (decent reviews) and also last year test rode one of his rented bikes. It was the latest model and in excellent condition. But it may well have been just this one! The price I don't remember for sure ..but I think that it was Rs. 25,000-30000 for 2 months and a deposit of Rs. 50,000 for the bike...or maybe a dposit of Rs.25,000/- Regards renting a car even that is possible but quite much more expensive than a bike. Renting a car/taxi with a driver would be about Rs.4 to Rs.9 per km. Renting a car from Hertz or rent a car is steeper. JUST AN IDEA...If your trip in india is pretty long 3 months or more..u could look to buy an old maruti about Rs. 50,000-60000 and sell it for 40000 when u leave. Or buy an old ambassador, reconditioned, for Rs.20000-30000 in delhi and sell it for 15000-20000 when u leave. This car info of mine is a little 'sticky' as I got the prices from a chap who knows a mechanic who deals in these cars!!!. So will need to 'reconfirm'. I made a small post on riding an enfield motorcycle in india a few months back and i think that there r some other posts on the same..u could have a look..... |

Indiawise, thank you for your information and advice. We're going to be in India in June and July, 2 months, and we're planning to travel through rajasthan about 1 week in June. We know it's very hot, but that's what we can do.
