Pondicherry to Villupuram Buses

Hi All

We are catching a train at 11pm from Villupuram to Rameswaram but will need to get to Villupuram first from Pondicherry.

Are there frequent buses, or is it easier to get a taxi? Also, how long would the journey take?

Obviously we dont want to get to Villupuram station too early but I wondered if there would still be buses running in the evening?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

I can't help you with buses. I had the same "problem" because my Madurai train left after midnight. I decided to take a taxi and paid something like 600 or 700 rupees. The taxi took about 45 minutes, if I remember correctly.

There are 2 options.

Option 1

If you catch up a state government bus or a private one from pondicherry by 9 PM (Which will be the last one to Villupuram) then there is a high chance that you may have to spend only 40 minutes in the station

Option 2

Break your journey as two parts

Pondicherry to Tindivanam : (30 minutes) There are N number of buses available till midnight (Both Government and private buses available)

Tindivanam to Villupuram: 45 Minutes: There are N number of buses available till midnight.(Very few private buses, but more government buses available)

Hi All

Many thanks for your replies. I don't actually get to Pondy until December but I'm just pre-planning a bit of a route on the way to Rameswaram and then to Kerala.

I will of course keep you posted on which route I take, at the moment I'm swinging towards getting one of the local buses in the evening if I'm feeling up to it but may just splash out on a taxi, even better if I can find a travel partner to car share with.
