Have a look see. You should find a train, schedule and fare that suits your needs.

Where in Kerala?
3-tier air con (3A) is good value for money, 2-tier has a little more room, but costs a lot more.
The train journey from Delhi to Kochi will take 48 hours, but if only travelling Delhi to Calicut the journey would take 43 hours.
The Delhi-Kochi fare in 3-tier will be about Rs1600, the fare in 2-tier would be Rs2600-2700.
Food and drinks are not included in the price.
If your destination is south of Shoranur, the Kerala Express (train number 12626) is a good and reliable train, if traveling to stations north of Shoranur then Mangla Lakshadweep Express (12618) is good.
The Rajdhani (12432) and Duronto (12284) trains are a little faster and food & drinks are included in the fare, but they cost Rs2250-2360 in 3-tier and Rs3500 in 2-tier.
The Rajdhani, Duronto and Mangla Lakshadweep take the more scenic route via Baroda, Goa and Calicut, the Kerala Express travels via Bhopal, Nagpur, Vijayawada and Tirupati before entering Kerala at Palghat.
