Mumbai to Goa leisurely route
Hello fellow members,
This is in response to the query raised by me in this thread, even though I should have given the report on the trip once I got back but could not for personal reasons. From time to time I still see some activity on this thread so it’s only fair I write down my experience of the trip even though it’s kind of late. Well I took anindya’s advice in the second post and followed most of the route suggested by him. As me and my friends wanted to take our own time and enjoy the ride and thanks to anindya it was one of the most pleasurable trip I have under taken and would strongly suggest others to do so. Coming from north india the whole experience of driving there has been a memorable one. To cut the long story short here is the feedback of the route we took. 1. Mumbai We got ripped of buy the guys at the railway station.who would not allow us to take our bike from the parcel room unless we paid hefty bribe.which we sadly had to 2. Panvel (Nh17) 3. Vadkhla Naka (Go Straight) 4. Alibaug Decent place for a stop over and there's one popular restuarant also. 5. Revadanda 6. Murud-Janjira We stayed for the night around 20 – 25 kms from Murud-Janjira don’t remembers the name of the place it very popular destination for the local as it has nice big beach and we visited murud janjira fort the next day. 7. Agardanda (Catch Ferry to Dighi) it’s a small ferry for pedestrians and motorbikes so no problems for car’s I guess there’s way to the highway and back on the track. Dighi 8. Shrivardhan Harihareshwar (Catch Ferry for Bankot) as with Agardanda the ferry can support only motorbike and passengers. We did find a nice guest and clean guest house called ganga niwas to stay in. 9. Bankot 10. Kelshi 11. Harnai 12. Dapoli 13. Dabhol I think there is a bridge now to guhagar as I don’t remember taking ferry across the river. 14. Guhagar(Take right from Tali, through Rai-Bhatgaon Bridge, it will save about 75 kms) 15. Ganpatipule – Jaigad We skipped this place instead went directly to ratnagiri though I regret it now as I heard it’s much nicer place. This was our longest drive so we were tired I guess. 16. Ratnagiri If one can avoid it do so it’s just a crowded city which could have been avoided if we had stayed In Ganpatipule. 17. Devgad 18. Malvan - Sindhudurg-Tarkarli 19. VengurlaThis is really nice place you can find home stay here and from the edge of the town where there is a MTDC resort you can see both sunset and sunrise across the ocean. Really nice place. 20. Terekol (Catch Ferry for Arambol, Goa) It’s a big ferry for four wheelers hence no issues for us crossing. In Goa we avoided all the beaches in north as they were crowded and went to palolem beach which was much nicer and we were lucky to found a place on 31st of December the palce is called cosy nook, the room was next to the beach. That’s it from my side. Though it’s late but still thanks anindya for the information. |

Hi
As part of a bike trip that my friends and I will be undertaking over the summer - do you reckon that Daman to Ratnagiri will be possibly in one day (c.10 hours on the road) - thanks!

Daman - Ratnagiri is around 445 KM distance ....It's quite possible to do in one day but not in 10 hours ... it'll take at least 14-15 hours .

it took us around 4 lazy days to reach goa but you can do so in lesser time if you want.
as for the parcel service we opted for a private transporter found him at new delhi station but my suggestion is to opt for the standard govt. parcel service at the station itself if traveling from delhi use nizamuddin as it less crowded and if you pay extra they will send your bike at the first available train. ensure that your bike is loaded in front of you and then travel onwards. else you might end up waiting for the bike at the destination. --sameer |
