The Event MTB HIMACHAL
Himalayan adventure sports & tourism promotion association H.A.S.T.P.A proposes to organize a mountain biking event in Himachal Pradesh from October 7th to 13th. The seven day event shall focus on traversing through some of the best terrain in Himachal Pradesh through trails tailormade for the sport of Mountain Biking. The Route Plan Leg One SHIMLA REGION Day One Flag Off from The Ridge Maidan, Shimla. Section A Ridge Forest Road Sanjauli Dhalli Mashobra (Beverage Halt) Section B Mashobra Sipur Glade Dak Bungalow Baikhalti Road Fagu Section C Fagu Kufri Seog Reserve Forest Koti Chail Section D Chail Junga Maili From Maili Drive back to Accommodation in Shimla (In around forest meadows). Day Two Assemble at Peterhoff. Early Morning drive to Mashobra. Section A Mashobra Baldeyan Khatnol Section B Khatnol Join Highway 22 near Matiana. Section C Matiana Chailla Gumma Baghi Narkanda Overnight Halt at campsite in Narkanda LEG TWO MANDI REGION Day Three Section A Narkanda Oddi Kingal - Luhri Section B Luhri Tattapani Chindi Shikari Devi Overnight Halt at Campsite near Shikari Devi Day Four Section A Shikari Devi Karsog Section B Karsog Jhanjheli Section C Jhanjheli Shikari Devi Overnight Halt at campsite near Shikari Devi LEG THREE KANGRA VALLEY Drive to Mandi, approximately 80 kms, 2.5 Hours from Shikari Devi Day Five Section A Mandi Ghatasani Section B Ghatasani Jhatingiri Section C Jhatingiri Barot Section D Barot RajGundha Billing Bir Overnight halt at Bir Campsite Day Six Drive to Baijnath, approximately 20 kms, and 20 mins from Bir. Section A Baijnath Paprola Andreta - Palampur Section B Palampur Naggar - Jia Dadh. Section C Dadh Tang Tikker Narwana - Yol Section D Yol Sidhpur Khanyara Dharamsala. Overnight Halt at Campsite Khanyara Day Seven Tour Of Mcleodganj during the day. Prize Distribution in the evening. Day Eight Drive to Pathankot to catch the connecting train to Delhi. The route follows interior Himachal Pradesh, through the districts of Shimla, Mandi and Kangra. Poised to be the first event of its kind in India, it shall meander through over 500 kms of the grand Himalayan backcountry. MTB HIMACHAL is mountain biking Himachal Pradesh, an event conceptualized and being organized by Himalayan adventure sports and tourism promotion association, an organization working towards sustainable tourism development in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The first event of its kind in the country, it will bring together a plethora of international and national riders, riding trails of the hill state over seven says, spanning the districts of Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Kangra. 100 riders are expected to participate in the event. MTB Himachal is supported by the department of tourism, Government of Himachal Pradesh.
Himalayan Foothills, 8 days, 680 kilometers, 10,000 metres of climbing, a test of strength and determination, a challenge, an adventure ... MTB HIMACHAL 2005 Stretch mind, muscle and stamina The first event of its kind in India, MTB Himachal is a mountain cycling adventure and an endurance race. Starting from Shimla, on the 6th of October, 2005, a maximum of 100 amateur and pro riders are estimated to grind their way back and forth over the beautiful Himalayan backcountry while bouncing, grunting and pedaling through over 600 kilometers of wilderness trails, all part of the 2005 MTB HIMACHAL. It will be a test of physical endurance and mental determination for mountain cycling enthusiasts from India and abroad. The event ends at the venue of the celebrations of the famous Kullu Dushehra, on 13th October, 2005 at Kullu. MTB HIMACHAL 2005 is being organized as a wilderness mountain bike race, where participants sleep in tent villages that are set up prior to their arrival and broken down immediately after the start each morning. Enthusiasts will be faced to endure the climate and physical challenges of the Himachal Himalayas. All legs begin at 8:00 am and riders are expected to reach the finish line by 6:00 pm daily. Stages include breakfast, a pre designated lunch area, beverages along the route, dinner and an awards ceremony each night where the winners are awarded Leader Jerseys. After the final stage, times will be calculated to determine the overall winners dispensing a total of 5,00,000/- RS in prize money. MTB HIMACHAL is being organized by Himalayan Adventure Sports & Tourism Promotion Association, H.A.S.T.P.A and is supported by the Department of Tourism, Government of Himachal Pradesh. Himachal has some of the best terrain in the world for the sport of mountain cycling and MTB Himachal 2005 is just the event to present a unique view of the scenic landscape to visitors. Where on one hand it brings the excitement of the sport of Mountain Biking to Himachal Pradesh on the other it creates a platform for the sport to thrive in the state. Day Eight Drive to Delhi. has been conceptualized as a showcase event to promote its natural trails for the sport of Mountain Biking. Over the years independent riders from across the world have been coming to the state and riding the trails here. The Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sarak Yojana has made it possible in Himachal Pradesh to interconnect the interiors of the state which otherwise were unreachable. Riders now have a chance to visit some of the most beautiful places in the world and connect with the culture and the people of these places. H.A.S.T.P.A has come to a consensus to charge a participation fees of $100 from international participants and Rs. 2500/- from Indian participants. Team entries (Minimum of 4 people shall constitute a team) shall be charged $300/- for International Teams and Rs. 10000/- for Indian Teams. Just thought would post the final route on the forum ... the photographs can be found at the website www.mtbhimachal.com DAY ONE Shimla 2208 mts - Narkanda 2700mts 5hrs riding time 810metres of climbing. 71 kms. DAY TWO Narkanda - Nirmund 1750 mts 5.5 hrs riding time. 1100 metres of climbing. 70 kms. The day break sees a steep downhill to the sutlej river valley at nogli 900mts and then an uphill to Nirmund. DAY THREE Nirmund - Jhajjar 1350 mts. 5.5 hrs riding time. 70 kms. 1000 metres of climbing. Winding through Himalayan villages and apple orchards. DAY FOUR Jhajjar - Dalash - Shamshar 1600mts. 50kms. 1200mts of climbing. 5.5 hrs riding time. Apple orchards and kids following you. DAY FIVE Shamshar - Jalori pass (3600mts) - Shoja 2400mts. 6 hrs of riding time. 32 kms, 1600 mts of climbing. The day begins with a steep uphill to the Jalori pass and then an absolute downhill to Shoja. DAY SIX Shoja - Jibhi - Gada Gushaini - Jhanjehli 2060mts. 60kms. 6.5 hrs of riding. 1200mts of climbing. The day winds through a forest before we begin a technical singletrack through some amazing Himalayan backcountry. A very rewarding ride. DAY SEVEN Jhanjehli - Bajah - Pandoh - Mandi 850mts 75 kms 6hrs of riding 1000mts of climbing. The route winds through some more singletrack and jeep tracks before reaching Mandi one of the larger towns in Himachal where we are received by an overwhelming crowd through a show off stage. DAY EIGHT Mandi - Kullu (Transport 70kms) Climb 1400mts to begin ride at 2400mts at Bijli Mahadev temple. 50kms. 5 hrs of riding. 1600mts of climbing. Overall the route is 70% Dirt Track and 30% Tarmac through some of the most picturesque Himalayan Backcountry. Fully supported by medics and feeding stations along the route serving fruits, glucose, juice and some energy supplements. More details can be had from the website.
