Motorcycle rental in mysore

Dear IMers,

I am interested in knowing if there are any shops in mysore that rent out motorcycles. I am not really interested in bullets - any normal 150 cc and above bikes would do.

Context: I am planning to make a 2/3 day ride starting from mysore into wayanad, kutta and coorg (if 3-day) and end the trip with mysore. So an important point here is that I wouldn't be traveling only within Karnataka.

An alternate plan is to load my bike in the train from chennai (where I live) to mysore and do the trip.

Any information/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Sharan,

I responded to your PM too.

There is no "Official" bike rental shop in Mysore. There is one guy who rents out Scooty / Kinteic Honda kind of Vehicles [Gearless] and he prefers Weekly / Monthly rentals and not "Day Rentals" is what I got the info from my Office Circles !! These Gearless Vehicles will not help you for the places you are planning !!

If you are specific about exploring only in Bike, you could Bring your bike which will be more helpful for you !!

Not Sure when are you planning for your trip but even now also there are occassional Rains in Mysore and Wayanad in which case exploring by bike might be kind-of-difficult !!

Hope this helps !!

Thanks for the response sir! I would also like to have some help on my itinerary.

1. Which road is better take from mysore to wayanad since I would be riding? - a. Through HD kote - nagarhole or b. Hunsur - nagarhole - kutta. Please consider the rain factor and the resulting probable road conditions.
(I am not planning to take the gundulpet route since we took it last time but if its the best bet, I am prepared to take it again )

2. In case I am including coorg in my trip, what would be best route to take from wayanad to madikeri? (again considering riding on a bike, rains, etc)

My plan as of now is to do Mysore - wayanad - kutta - nagarhole - mysore if its a 2-day trip and mysore - wayanad - kutta - nagarhole - madikeri - mysore if its 3 days. I am planning to visit bylekuppe and nisargadhama on my way back. Please comment on the above itinerary as well.

Thanks a lot in advance!

/* NOTE For Future Visitors to this thread: This post is on the "Driving Directions,Road Conditions,Tips for Bike Trip from Mysore to Wayanad / Coorg and nothing to do with "Motorcycle rentals in Mysore" */

/** Very Long Post **/

Hi Sharan,

PFB my comments !! You could take a "printout of this" which might help during your journey !

If it's 3 Day trip, you could do the Following:-

Day 1:-

I assume you reach mysore by Kaveri express.

Just come out of Mysore Jn, Drive Straight and take Right in the 3rd intersection [And that's Hunsur / Madikeri / Mangalore highway]

You will reach Hunsur-Drive Straight in Madikeri / MAngalore highway Via "Hunsur Bypass road" and don't get into Hunsur town.
After few kms, you will see a signboard

<------
Gonikoppal
Virajpet
Anehoukur

Take that left and now you are from Super-highway into Narrow Single Lane road with big Craters in both the side of the roads. Road will be Ok to Good but if a bus or Lorry comes in opposite direction, it's better you stop / wait and then proceed as in this road you can't get down or get back so easily !

You will pass thru many villages and all through singboards will be in "Kannada" and you can just drive Straight and after few kms ,you will see A Nice Road with a Forest Dept Checkpost and a board "Welcome To Kodagu District" - Nagarahole Forest Range / Anehoukur Wildlife Division. From here Road will be Fantastic and "DO NOT STOP" for next few kms as that's again forest but Traffic will be there and finally you will see All around "Tea Plantations" with Nice a bit of cold weather and that's South Kodagu [ Gonikoppal / Virajpet / Kutta / Nagarahole NP / Srimangala / Iruppu Falls are famous / Important places of South Kodagu]. You will reach Gonikoppal !

"Gonikoppal" is a decent town where you will find all [ Hotels / ATM/ Lodges etc].

Option 1:- From here, IF you want to Visit Wayanad:-

Take Left in "Gonikoppal" and drive Straight and after around 20 kms [App], you will see a Signboard

---> Iruppu Falls 8 kms

Take that right and it's worth with Beautiful Temple and Brahmagriri Mountain Ranges in the back and the Iruppu Waterfalls just 0.75 kms walk from the temple !

After Finishing, get back in the same road [ Don't ask anybody directions for Kutta/ wayanad etc] as there is a Mega-worst Road [which is shortcut to Kutta] and bike Can not withstand that road and local people will invariably point that route only !

Now you are back in Gonikoppal - Kutta Road. Take right, and drive Straight and you will be in kutta in 15 minutes . Kutta is the last border town from Karnataka end. Here you have "Paid Rest Room" , small Hotels .

Now , go straight and after 3 to 4 kms, and you will see a signboard

Nagarahole NP

Tholpetty / Mananthavadi
^
|
|

|

Here take the main road and within 100 metres, you will be in one of the Worst roads for 4 kms and then you will see "Karnataka Checkpost" and then you are into Kerala.

From here on , Roads will be good and singboards will be there in English and you will cross Tholpetty WLS in few minutes [ try out a Safari but you need to hire a Jeep . Timings 6 - 9 am and 3 - 6 pm] . But most probably it will be late afternoon and so go straight and you will see "Kattikulam" and take right and then smooth ride to "Mananthavadi". Stay here which is budget !

Day 2:- Explore Wayanad [ Mananthavadi / Kalpetta and all the tourist spots as you know already]

Day 3:- You might need this day for exploring wayanad !

If you are tired while coming back, take Kalpetta / Bathery / Muthanga WLS / Gundlupet/Nanjangudu Mysore route as travelling again back thru kutta might be tiresome [ You could take a call considering the Road condition ]

OPTION 2:- From Gonikoppal, if you want to Visit Madikeri :-

Go Straight in fantastic roads and just after Virajpet town take right and you will be onto Ghat roads and Madikeri is just around 35 kms away in good roads !

OPTION 3: -From Mysore, if you wan to explore madikeri /Talacauvery and surroundings :-

And Again, If your aim is MAdikeri / Talacauvery and surroundings, after Hunsur drive Straight and you will pass through Periyapatna and at a place called "Koppa" , take left and you will be in "Tibetan settlements" and then you re-Join Hunsur-Madikeri highway and you will reach " Kushalnagara" [ Big town with decent hotels / Gas station] and in "Kushal Nagara" take left and you will reach "Cauvery nishadhama" in 10 minutes !

Then you can continue straight and you will reach a place called "SuntiKoppa" from here Ghat road starts and Road will be poor to very poor just after Koppa until Madikeri !

Stay at Madikeri, and next day you could explore Talacauvery [Ghat roads , nice Scenery]

General:-

1.You may avoid "Exploring Mysore's Tourist Spots" If you want to visit Wayanad OR Coorg as time may not be sufficient !

2.Roads are fantastic between Mysore-Hunsur-KushalNagara [ 80 kms out of the total 129 kms of Mysore to Madikeri]. Roads are bad between Suntikoppa - Madikeri

3.Roads will be deserted after kushalnagara until MAdikeri & From Gonikoppal to Iruppu Falls to Kutta to Tholpetty WLS to Kattikulam !

4.Food you may plan in Mysore, Hunsur,Kushalnagara,Gonikoppal ,Virajpet,Madikeri,Mananthavad i,Kalpetta and remaining places, you need to just adjust with whatever is available !

5.Stay , you may plan in Mysore / Mananthavadi / Madikeri where you have variety of accomodations !

6. As you know, within Nagarahole NP , 2 wheelers are banned !You might park in Kutta and get a shared Jeep to Nagarahole NP

7.Kutta - Tholpetty WLS and Anehoukur stretch , Avoid stopping for photograph etc as that's dense forests with animal presence !

8.Intermittent slight Rains are there currently but it won't be a show-stopper !

9. From Wayanad to Coorg , the route will be Kalpetta - Mananthavadi-Kattikulam-Tholpetty WLS-Kutta-Gonikoppal-Virajpet-Madikeri

10. Don't try Mysore-HD Kote Road to Wayanad Or Kutta as in-between "Nagarahole NP" will be there and as I told "2-Wheelers are not Allowed inside the NP"

If you need specific info, Please post !!

Regards
Velu
