Motorbikes on Rent

Hi,
I am going biking to manali/leh in early june. I was hoping to rent a bike from delhi but people advised me to get one from manali itself because it will be cheaper there. Please tell me if bikes(enfield 350/500) will be easily available in manali(where exactly??) this time of the year and what would be the approx rent per day. Also is it advisable to bike alone from manali to leh, or should i tie up with other people biking to leh??
thanks
sid

Has anyone rented motor bikes in Udaipur? We're just thinking about some day trips around the area.
THanks much!

You should be able to pick up bikes from travellers leaving
I was offered a 350 enfield for $50 by an israeli guy who still ahdn't sold his and was l;eaving that night
I was leaving also so he ended up leaving it on the street with the keys as a gift to whoever took it from what I heard ...

However there a re loads of people selling but its very much buyer beware
I know you say you want to rent but it may work out cheaper just to buy it ...and arrnage to seel it back iof you buy from a garage in Delhi.

Don't know how long you have in india and whether this is feasible

I'd say travel the manali Leh road with someone else
Enfields are very unreliable and your bike however good will breakdown ...its part of the whole Enfield thing so make sure you have a good emergency tool kit.

Thumbs down Forget it

You won't get spares in India. Enfield is the go, and a fantastic India experience in itself. You will find a shop/ mechanic in any town of any size.

Its a good idea to rent a bike from Manali. There are good places all over Manali enting out 350/500 Enfields.
However if you are two person on one Enfiled, go for 500cc. otherwise for Manali-leh trip 350cc is fine ith normal baggage. For spiti, 500cc is the one to go for.
In Manali, apart from buying from other travellers, Anu Automoniles on Rohtang Road, opposite Tibetian colony (turn left after you cross the wooden brigde, while coming from Manali main bazar) is one guy with well maintained Enfields.
If its your first time, it might be a good idea to ride with few others, in a group.
Otherwise, everyone is very helpful on the route.
