Motorbike Shops : Mumbai

Me and a friend of mine will be arriving in Mumbai in a few weeks time - I have already posted a thread on this forum, (Motorbike Journey - October / South India) but would like to ask for some more specific advice regarding places / areas / districts of Mumbai that we should go to to rent / purchase motorbikes.

1) Are there any specific motorbike shops that people have used can can recommend?

2) Are there any specific things that we should check on the motorbike before renting / buying? (i.e. condition of seat, rust etc.)

3) Could you provide an indication of the price that we should expect for renting / buying motorbikes for a month?

Thanks in advance for any help.

thanks groove,

our budget is between 40,000 and 60,000 rupees - obviously it would be preferable to pay as little as possible (i.e. closer to the 40,000rupees mark).

any advice on bikes and where to find them would be great.
thanks in advance.

in 60k you can buy most of the new bikes in india...

I would suggest you to gor for used Karizma which is a tried and tested tourer bike in india. still if you could let me knw about your requirnments and which part of india are you planning to ride?, single or with pillion? and how much baggage you want to carry depending upon that we would be able to suggest you some more options.

btw when are you planning to visit india?

sounds like 40k will probably be enough for a used bike then!

is there anything we should know in terms of the paperwork and transfer of ownership papers? I am assuming the typical approach is to go to a dealer and they will have all the necessary documentation - and we provide passport / intl licence?

A used Karizma sounds like what we are looking for - what size would you recommend?

we are starting in mumbai on the 1st of october - and spending the whole of october travelling south along the west coast through goa, karnataka and kerala, and then back up the east coast through tamil nadu to chennai - where we will either donate the bikes to a charity or put them on a train back to mumbai.

- there will be two of us and two bikes (no pillion)
- we will not be taking too much baggage (only a 40litre or so backpack - hopefully strapped to some racks)
- we dont know mumbai very well - so some areas to go to purchase equipment (i.e. helmet, jacket etc.) and the bikes themselves would be great.

I think both of you should go with karizmas then...its a 225CC 17bhp tourer bike.

About paper works i doubt if you guys would be able to transfer it on your name...bt let me ask my paperwork guy...

If you could provide me with your contact details (e-mail, celll etc.) then i would be able to help you here in mumbai.

I can personally help you with purchaing bikes and other stuffs like helmets, jackets n all.

I am a tourer who wish to explore the whole universe and i really appreciate that you guys are actually planning a bike trip in some other country.....please feel free to ask me for any help you required.....

Btw how old you guys are? (Just for the info.... )

Thanks for the additional information - the Karizma sounds like a good option...

Have you got any feedback in regards to paperwork - and ownership for foreigners?

And also, are you from Mumbai? If so, what areas should we goto to look for bikes and equipment? (Colaba? Bandra? Mahim?)

My email is paulegs@hotmail.com - feel free to send me any additional details to that if you prefer.
