motorbike price
hi,
i haven't been to india for a few years, but i remember hearing about cheaper prices back then... just saw a bullet for sale, '96 model, 350cc... it looks in good condition, though i don't know enough about the insides of it to give it a proper check up... i'm going to try to find someone more knowedgable to have a look at it... the guy wants 27,000 Rs for it, and doesn't seem ready to negotiate at all. if it is actually in good running condition, does that sound like a reasonable price? oh, and i'm in leh at the moment..... the bike hasn't got any of the baggage carriers i'd expect to see on a bike up here... curious? many thanx, d |

hey shashank!!!
thanx for the quick answer... i had a more in depth look at the bike, and i finally got to talk to "the boss" today, and to see the papers of the bike... the bike really is in a very good condition, but... it's a 1981 model!!!!!!! not '96 as stated by his boy... is that still a reasonable price?!!! i mean i know the condition of the bike is the important thing, but that's 15 years older!!! thanx again, d |

The year of make indicates the bike has probably been used a lot but there are exceptions. Some first time owners maintain it well without using it much. But if it has been owned by more than one person and has run over 100000 kms it is most likely been overhauled which is not bad if done by a good mechanic who has used original spares.
The price is not very high but check out other things like tyre condition/shocks/brakes etc cos' it could increase the cost for you later. |

For bullets people prefer Older models...they feel its heavier and more stable...
not sure about the price though...80's Bullet does command a price.. You should check out other machines in the market and take an estimation of the going price of a 80's model and then make a decision... |

thanx for the replies.... it turned out that that bike didn't ride as well as it looked, so i think the price is way out of range... i'm still searching...
are the older bikes really more reliable? thanx d |

Is there something particular in your might that you want to go for a bullet only !! why not try out a Pulsar 150 CC...
It has a lot of power and a lot more reliable..and add to that its very fuel efficient...under normal conditions would go 45-50 KM per litre.. |

Better option would be to pickup bikes in Leh it self. Because they are tuned for that altitude, also a member of my group had not so good experience with bikes rented from Manali.
Another thing you have to remember is the fact that most of the Bullets on sale in Manali or Leh are probably bikes that have been used as rental bikes or had been brought by other travelers and have been abused thoroughly. You might want to check with other foreigners, they might be willing to let go of the bike for a cheaper rate. I guess putting up a flyer at couple of cyber cafes or near the German bakery might do the trick. Do keep in mind, no matter what bike you get, expect to spend a few thousands on getting it to top shape if you are thinking of taking it on a long tour or keeping it for a while. |
