Looking to go to a quiet mountain

Hello everyone, I want to get away from city life and seek refuge under a quiet mountain for some time. My plan is to first visit Haridwar from Delhi and then head to Chamoli as I hear it is a scarcely populated area.
Plus my budget is low so I would like some advice on where to stay at these places and how much will it cost. Also what are the viable transport options.

- Thank you!

Hi Valiant,
Welcome to Im
Chamoli is on the main yatra route to Badrinath, but I think the Yatra is over for the season so it should be quiet . . . buses ply regularly so that should not be a problem! There are a bunch of off shoots birehi ganga, mandal and chopta leading to tungnath and others which you could explore if you really want seclusion . . . you might enjoy auli too

Chamoli may not be a right choice as it's a major town in hills. However surrounding villages will be good, but in villages there are no stay options.

You may checkout Harsil, on way to Gangotri also.

You may think about Chandrapuri, 20KM from Rudraprayag(way to Kedarnath), beside Mandakini river. Very nice place indeed.

I forgot Dhanaulti, another nice and quite place.

"Dhanaulti, located amidst thick, virgin forests of deodar, rhododendron and oak has an atmosphere of perfect peace & tranquility. The long wooded slopes, lazy outings, cool caressing breeze, warm and hospitable inhabitants, lovely weather and fabulous view of snow covered mountains makes it an ideal retreat for a relaxed holiday. Situated on the Mussoorie - Chamba route, Dhanaulti is 25 kms. from Mussoorie."

Thank you for your suggestions folks!

But I am talking about a place like this:

The Neelkanth Parvat:

Is this near Badrinath? Will it be a good place to go at this time of the year?

I also found the Pangong Tso lake:

But this is simply to show the beauty of this place. I can't go there it is in a Indo-China disputed boundary.

Please give me your valuable suggestions.

The large pics are a nuisance on threads because they often don't fit into the page width and require scrolling sideways. Please don't do this again, thank you.

Oh, I got it wrong. I thought you are talking about some cool and calm place to rest As you are looking for some tougher one Hmmm may be Deoriatal, or Basukital(Kedarnath). Dumkal kharak near Badrinath is a good one. If you are ready to trek for a day there are lot and lot of such places. Now I am confused again, which one to name and which not

You can definitely travel to pangong tso. Its a 6 hr ride from Leh. you need an ILP(inner line permit)- obtainable in leh - for going to pangong tso.

Valiant_Traveller, travelling to Ladakh lakes would be costly and you said your budget is low. And they may turn out to be dry for your taste. It seems that you want to stay at one place for some time and not travel around. Now that the main pilgrim season is over, Harsil, Chopta-Tunganath, MadMaheshwar, Dodital would be good. For Neelkanth, you have to stay in Badrinath. Going up the mountain requires gear and expertise. Of course, Dhanaulti is a nice place. Actually there are thousands of places like these in Himalayas.

A lot of options indeed!

Hey! One last question: How much approximately would it cost to reach Badrinath from New Delhi via Haridwar in bus?

Thanks! You all are wonderful people.

P.S. Apologies to moderators for using large pictures.

No deluxe DTC bus on this route?

I went to Kashmere Gate ISBT just to check out and I found that there are no deluxe DTC buses or even of Uttarakhand Parivahan Nigam to Haridwar. The enquiry person said deluxe buses are few and cannot say when I can find one.
