Leh-Keylong/Keylong-Manali
Which of these legs would you absolutely recommend by taxi, which one by bus?
Is it easy to get a hold of a taxi in Keylong for Manali? Thanks! |

i would take a taxi to keylong and then the bus to manali. the first part is the most rough and tough, so its more comfortable in a jeep. do not take the speedtaxi if you want to enjoy the trip! but why not a taxi for the whole trip?

We want to have a day in Keylong, but if the price is not too high, we will certainly consider it. Are taxis plentiful in Keylong?

Taxis aren't plentiful in Keylang itself, but you'll get one. Specially a returning-to-base one in season.
When are you travelling, ossen? From July to September, HP Tourism runs delux buses with a night in Keylang, tent accom and dinner/breakfast thrown in. At 1600 bucks per seat, it's worth considering. |

I am travelling in August, which makes the deluxe bus a good option as well.
My main interest in terms of choosing one over the other was which part that proved most scenic, being able to stop a few places along the route would be nice I imagine. |

If you are ok with traveling in a bus, you can pretty much spend the night any where on the Manali - Leh route and catch the bus next day. During our trip last year, one of the bike carrying pillion was having problem climbing so we sent the pillion through bus from Darcha. The only thing to keep in mind is that bus starts quite early in the morning from Keylong (around 4am)

I think even then the bus would start at 4am from Keylong, not 100% sure though.
