Interstate tax - taxi, motorbike, rickshaw etc.

Is there a website that lists Interstate taxes between each connecting state?

I'm interested in the tax for crossing from Goa to Karnataka. (then back)

Is it payable in both directions? (if you're making a return journey)

Is it the same cost in both directions?

Or are you paying to enter a state?

Thanks for any info.

Steven, there is no website listing all the different taxes for every state in India.
The amount of tax that you pay while travelling from Goa to Karnataka depends on the carrying capacity of the taxi. For example the tax on a Qualis taxi is more than double that of a Maruti Van because the Qualis is a 9 seater.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the interstate tax is paid only by taxis/commercial vehicles which have an interstate permit. To avoid paying tax, many of the private cars are not registered as tourist taxis. They just carry passengers as personal/private vehicles and becuase of this they do not have to pay any fees! The Qualis that I hired to go to Hampi from Goa was one of these "private taxis" and as a result there was no need to pay any taxes/bribes at the Goa-Karnataka border.

GoanCanuck is correct.

No interstate taxes are payable by private cars. Only tolls, if applicable.

And, one of the reasons taxis with an "all india interstate permit" or somesuch charge more is because many already have prepaid, annually, these taxes. Usually, these should not then be paid in addition by the passenger.

It is payable only in one direction. My understanding is that it is a permit fee to drive a commercial vehicle on the roads of a state for which that vehicle has no permit. So if your vehicle had a Goa permit, no tax is payable to drive it on Goan roads, so no need to pay coming back.
