International boat connections?

Hi,
I am planning to travel from India (Chennai) to Thailand,
and preferably by boat!
So far, I have not found any information on boat international passenger boat connections from India.

Can anyone give me an advice?

Did you see the BBC documentary 'Around the world in 80 days' with Michael Palin ? (here is the website). He caught a boat from Chennai to S.E. Asia, though I think he found it quite hard to arrange. I guess waving a BBC film crew helps, though!

This page mentions the shipping agent he went through: "Babuji Jetsea Freights" - I guess that should be your first 'port of call'...
