I am doing some research, and I realise it has been a while since I have driven from Bangalore to Chennai. I have been told the highway is pretty much complete. I have seen several videos of people on Youtube cruising on this roads of speeds of 150km/h. Something unheard of during my days in India.

Given that this road is now so good, could someone give me an indication of how long it will take by private car to cover the distance from Hosur to Chennai city limits. I will hopefully be averaging the fastest safest permissable speeds. Any specific details on traffic pockets, existing roadworks, slow town areas etc. will be greatly appreciated. The speed and time will obviously also be influenced by the time of day. I am assuming early mornings are still a good time.

I am sure there are many members here who have driven this..

Thanks.

Hi~

Yep, things have definitely changed for the better. Still a long way to go before we have the pleasure of driving as in the US Freeways, Autobahns.

Have traveled with family from B'lore to Chennai multiple times. So, as you can imagine, didnt try to hit the 150 kmph mark However, we have covered about 370 km (one parking lot to the other) in about 5 hrs or less. Add about 30 mins pit stop for either home made gastronomic delights or from A2B.

Since, you are travelling from Hosur, you might reduce about 45-60 mins of travel time that is required to get out of B'lore.

Wish you folks a happy and safe travel!

Yes chief, it's a dream drive ! An early morning start from Hosur ( say 5am ) and you could be at Koyambedu at 9 am ( safe speed 90 - 100kmph, without any stops enroute ) - of course, you do not have anything to stop for !

All this in a small car ( with family )! driving a SUV ? be there in 3 hours !!

hope this helps ...

Thanks Mr Ashoka... Very helpful info.

India has changed so much in the last decade! But then again, other things have not changed in the last 100 years either! That's precisely what I love!

Apologies for bringing to life an old thread.

I always find huge traffic jams near Hosur when travelling from Bangalore onward to Krishnagiri. People recommend me to leave early (0300!!). Will there be traffic jam if I leave E-City at around 0730. What is the latest time I can leave in the morning so that I don't encounter much traffic near Hosur.
