We were recently in Orissa and used a terrific rickshaw driver in Bhubaneswar. He was honest, reliable, knowledgeable about which temples we would want to see and a very nice guy. He speaks some English. We highly recommend him. His name is Dhirendra Kanungo and he is located at the taxi stand in front of the Panthinivas Hotel (the Orrissa Tourist Dept Hotel) on Lewis Road. You can make arrangements with him by phone. He has a mobile phone: 9238818239 . His rickshaw is new and clean ( Vehicle # 7711) and he is a reasonably careful driver (given Indian standards).

We used a great guy in Jaipur. He provides all day tours of the city and will also just take you from point a to point b if needed. He was an older gentleman who used to drive a taxi for an affluent hotel so he is not only knowledgeable but honest too. His name is M Khalil. His number is 9829229758. He is supercheap and takes you to all of the great places in Jaipur. He even includes humor along with his spiel. We went around the middle of March (07') and he charged us about 350 Rupees for a full day of touring. His rickshaw is the one with the Dali-like clock inside. Enjoy!

We were in Ahmedabad recently and had two bad experience with rickshaw drivers. One guy wanted to charge us double after 7 PM, because according to him, night-rates start at 7. The other guy, after agreeing to a round-trip fare, wanted to charge us double saying that what he had agreed to was for a one way journey. We had to settle with him for one and a half times the original fare, since we were getting late for our flight. In the future, I am going to be very wary of the rickshaw drivers there. I sincerely hope that these are two isolated incidents and do not reflect on the honesty and integrity of all of them. My son had lost his wallet in Kadi and wasn't sure where he might have lost it. We were in the process of cancelling his credit cards and registering a police complaint, when a rickshaw driver came looking for us and handed over the wallet, refusing to even accept a token gift. So, not all of them are made off the same mould.
