Hampi to Goa by bus
Have searched here for specific details, but unable to find what I'm looking for, so here goes:-
What is the best bus to take from Hampi to Goa? ie. Express overnight or an early morning one? Which buses/bus lines do the trip? Does this bus run every day/night? Has anyone done this trip and can comment on the bus they took? i.e. nightmare, good trip etc. How long was the trip? Does it run from Hampi or Hospet? Did you book far in advance? Where does one book it, in Hampi or Hospet and specifically at what place? The train does not run on the days we planned or we would train it and having limited time, we would appreciate any info so we can decide what route to take. Thanks! |

Hampi TO Goa
Hi goamit
We've made a train booking from Goa to Hampi. No problem. We want to travel FROM Hampi to Goa and it's not possible for us to return to Goa by train as it does not run on our dates. The latest Footprint Guide (Page 1019) says there are buses to Panaji from Hampi & there is a luxury bus but the details are confusing so I wanted someone who had done the trip to advise me. If it's all too hard, then we'll go to Hampi from Bangalore by return train and forget about Goa/Hampi. It's just that Goa/Hampi/Goa fits better, with our plans. Thanks for your post and no, we are not going for the party. Although if we hear of one, we might just drop in, if they have free drinks. All the best. |

Hi lyndy.
I would go to Hampi then find out about the buses when I get there. I would say the majority of western tourists in Hampi are coming from or going to Goa, with most of them using buses, there is almost certainly a wide choice of buses (both daytime & overnight), though it's a long journey. I would be amazed if there weren’t daily buses (both daytime & overnight), I don't know if they would depart from Hampi or Hospet, but I bet you will get sick of touts trying to sell you bus tickets in Hampi. Not much of a helpful reply, but it gets your thread back to the top.

Hi Lyndy
I was in Hampi recently and saw Bus operators advertising overnight buses to Goa in Hospet. I saw sleeper bus arriving from Goa so I think u should be fine getting one in the other direction cheers |

Don't use the sleeper bus
I've taken the sleeper super prooper luxury bus from hampi to goa in feb.2000 and it was a nightmare.
You only can be in horitzontal position in your bed, and if you're travelling alone you'll have to share it with somebody else as they are double bed. In our bus there were a group of students from Bangalore that were so drunk that i can't imagin being close to some of them! Then the road is like most of the roads in India, it means with lots of holes!, so the bus is bumping all the way to goa. That's not a big problem once you're going in a 2x2 luxury bus as you're sitting, but here you're lying in a bed with the other berth no more than half a meter from yours! so you'll be jumping in the bed all night long. If i had known it i would rather have taken any other transport, even a ordinary non deluxe bus. ![]() |

I would strongly advise against taking the bus. Last year I took the bus vom Hospet to Gokarna. It was the most horrible experience of my whole journey, not a single minute of sleep the whole night!
Another point to consider; I was told that there are not always direct "deluxe" busses, only in the main tourist season |

I've also heard some horrendous reports of the bus trip. You mentioned Bangalore, is Bangalore - Hampi - Goa not an option? Is sharing a jeep/taxi an option? If you're itinerary is still slightly flexible; give me the details and I'll see if I can manage to fit the train in. (I've planned so many trips for myself around the area, though still haven’t been to Hampi) |

Bus sounds like a bad idea?
Thanks to all, for the great info. It is what I needed to know and I much appreciate your assistance.
steven, thanks very much for your offer, however I checked the train schedule and it runs from Hospet to Goa on a Tuesday (not Monday, as it originates somewhere else on Monday nights) so we would be one day late in our schedule. Sounds too fine tuned, heh? We've really only got 20 days as we have commitments in Singapore and must return there, by a given date. No worries, we will do the Bangalore, Hampi trip, as you suggested then head south and come back to Goa later in the trip. Bangalore/Hampi was always an option but I was looking for optimum! All the very best everyone and thanks again. ![]() |
