"full day" city tour car rentals: good idea?
Has anyone had any experience using this particular car rental company?
http://www.indiarentacar.com/cartariff.htm And how much should you expect to pay for a full day's (budget car) rental (including driver)? (I'm trying to guage if their tariffs are reasonable). Would it be possible to say catch a train to Agra, and take advantage of the car rental option to see the sights? Is there usually a km cap for the full day rentals, and would that be enough to hit the big sites within the golden triangle cities? We have 4 days to hit as much as possible! Thanks for any help. |

Those rates quoted are very high. The fact that they are quoting in USD tells me something too.
As an example, a non a/c Indica ex Delhi should cost 5.50 rupees per kilometer, minimum 200 km /day which means 5.50*200= 1100 rupees a day. the 200km is cumulative which means if you take it for 5 days, you have to pay for 1000km, but you can do this 1000 km over the five days, and not neccessarily 200km every day. You may have to pay for some tolls in addition, at cost, and tip the driver, which is upto you. No other additional costs. Fuel is their cost too. That site says 225 us dollars for four days and 1000 km, which comes to about 9 rupees a kilometer for a non a/c Indica, which is absurd, even if it includes tolls, which are not high. |

okay... good to know. How feasible is it to get to Agra/ Jaipur/ Delhi, and find your way around using cabs or autorickshaws? Can you get a cab off the streets or is it better to book ahead? Is there a language problem doing this? It seems it might be cheaper doing this than getting a full day car hire at $50 a day....?
Also, I know that the Taj Mahal is closed on Friday, but are any of the other Agra monuments also closed then? And are they all open over the weekend? And I believe if you take your Taj Mahal ticket stub to the Agra Fort, you don't have to pay Rs 500 again... does this work the other way too? Since we're arriving in Agra on Friday, we want to do the fort and Fatehpur Sikhri, and then the Taj Mahal on Saturday. Anyone see any probs with this plan? And approxinately how much should it cost to get to these 3 places by cab? bonnie_ds: good luck with your planning. Will keep you posted if anything useful crops up. |

Yes, it is perfectly possible to do Agra/Jaipur with local transport. |
