Essential Royal Enfield Tool & Spares Kit For Touring
Will be touring around India for 6 months and
plan to be semi self-sufficient when it comes to doing repairs etc. What would be some essential tools and spare parts that I would be required to carry for a new Royal Enfield Bullet 350cc? |

Depends on where your going, you'll need a much more comprehensive set if your planning on doing the mountainous regions since there are far fewer (well almost zero) reliable 'mechanics' and forget about decent spare parts in the more remote regions (i.e. Zanskar).
Basically here are a list of the essentials, anything else is a bonus:- Spare inner-tubes, large tool for taking the wheel off (quite a task with a phillips head. You need something like a crowbar, but smaller. Possible foot pump although you could always flag a jeep down, of which some carry foot pumps, but not all of course. Spare cables (front break, clutch, accelerator). Spare fuses if your bike needs them (most will). Spare clutch (bit drastic but I know people who take three of them, since clutches generally have to be changed every 2,000ks. A bad clutch can cause all sorts of problems, not least overheating). Some people have 500cc clutches fitted to their 350's and swear by it. Ten liter fuel can (standard 350cc tank is around 14 liters, depending on model and condition, Enfield should achieve between 23-29ks per liter). Couple of spare spark plugs. As for tools, complete set of spanners, small hammer, pliers, flat head and phillips drivers, not to mention something to remove the back wheel with. I've seen all sorts of things used for this, but basically you need something long, about half an inch thick. Since you need to unscrew a bolt and then hammer a larger bolt out of the wheel rut. This mental bar falls off then you can remove the wheel without having to take off the chain/gears. *** Basically a brand new Enfield should not give you many problems. If it is brand new, make sure that you go easy on it for the first 500k's. You'll likely encounter a few flat tyres and have to change the plugs/wires/clutch. This should be all. If there are two of you, I recommend a 500cc for the mountains. I'm sure more can be added to this list ![]() PS DUCK TAPE!!! ![]() |
