Question Driver guides

WHOA! what a super site.. so much info. well done. I'm in nepal at the mo and heading to India in a few weeks for 3 weeks and have read/heard lots about the need to book trains quite a ways in advance (difficult to do from nepal and don't want to be stuck in one place in india for too many days as my time there is limited), so I'm trying to find out about driver-guides as an alternative.... any tips, recommendations, experiences?? are they really exy? reliability? Where would be the best place to organise one from?

My partner and i plan to be mainly in Rajasthan: Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer (but also love to visit Varanassi and Agra. We fly out of Delhi at the end. No flight booked to india from nepal as yet). thanx a million. cora xx

Not much in the business of advertizing, however these folks http://www.namasteindiatours.com/ used to be esteemed members here. Haven't seen them around lately, but try them.

Welcome & enjoy!

[*edit: they seem to be booked full till late '06 I see now. Browse this site if you haven't already. As they note on their site you'll get a good idea there anyway of what to expect.]

Dear machadinha:

thanks for the tip about Namaste India Tours, it is a shame that they are already all booked up, but it was fun and edifying to visit their website -- they seem like very honest, nice folks with some very level-headed advice about India travel!

Cheers,
- P

I know it's a moot point since they're all booked up, but I recently booked a friend on a Delhi-Agra-Jaipur tour with Namaste India Tours and when she arrived back yesterday she did in fact heap praises on them for her driver being knowledgeable and trustworthy. So this is a recommendation to anyone who would start to book their Delhi/Rajasthan tour after January 2007 and would consider Namaste.

Yr welcome but thanks for the thanks. They were always pretty cool here yes, never promoting themselves & exhibiting plenty of down-to-earth sensibility. Good website too from what I've seen, indeed. I assume their being so busy explains why we haven't seen much of them lately, I'm looking forward to having them around again.
