delhi-manali-leh-srinagar-delhi oct 09-need advice
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hi all, Me and my girlfriend are planning a trip in the beginning of oct. We will be catching and over night bus to manali and thats about it for our plans so far. We would love to do this trip by motor bike. We have done a few short trips in india by bike already, but i think the conditions in this area are a little more extreme. 1. I am not a novice bike rider, but im not the super experienced rider either. Is this trip for expert riders only? 2. We would like to hire the bike from manali and drop it off in srinagar or leh(dont know how far we want to go by bike). Is this possible? 3. Are we too late this year in terms of the weather. Will the roads be unrideable? Appreciate any advice, thanks |

Manali to Leh is one of the toughest mobike circuits you can do.
If you must have a shot at it, I would suggest you hire mobikes and ask for a mechanic to accompany you on a separate mobike. If you abort the trip midway it will prove expensive as you'll have to pay for the bikes to be brought back on a truck. As for dropping off the bikes at Srinagar, well, everything has a price. The roads are presently open. Usually they close down by the end of October. |

The motorcycle shops are closing down now in manali as its the end of season. The enfield club and Anu are open all year over the valley in Vashisht, non of them can rent a bike to drop off in Srinagar, unless you want to pay a big pick up charge. you can do this trip easy enough by yourself, but it does take some serious forward planning. You have left it a bit late in season though and there's every chance you could get snowed in for a day or two on the passes.

Not realy the best time to do this trip. However I did this trip in June-July. Delhi - Manali - Leh - Srinagar - Jammu - Delhi, It took 15 days including rest days.
Rented bike in Delhi, rode over 2700Kms. Fantastic trip. ![]()
