Kashmere Gate ISBT
Anand Vihar ISBT

Basically the bus would start from Kashmere gate, pick up passengers from Anand Vihar and then goto Haridwa, Rishikesh etc.

Dont remember the platform number but anyone at Kashmere Gate can tell where the buses from Haridwar leave.

When I went to Haridwar (in May this year), the buses left after every half an hour. And alternate buses were deluxe ones. Like at 11, a regular state transport would go. 11:30 a deluxe, 12 a regular and 12:30 a deluxe. So on and so forth. Am not sure if they still leave like that.

Avoid taking a private operated bus. They would not depart until the bus is full and in many cases they book more tickets than seats.

Always take a bus operated by state transport authorities be it DTC or UP road ways. Touts will try to lure you to a so called super deluxe bus or some thing, don't fall for it.

I have always preferred to take the Dehradun Shatabdi train on this route, leaves New Delhi at 06:50 and reaches Haridwar at 11:25. You can get the timings and frequency of DTC and UP Roadways buses here :

New deluxe services

Nowadays Uttarakhand Transport Corp (UTC) is operating 2 daily a/c deluxe buses (one morning and one evening), and 2 daily non-a/c deluxe (Hitech) buses (one morning and one evening) between Delhi and Haridwar/Rishikesh.

Please note however, that these buses are temporarily operating from/to Anand Vihar terminal in Delhi. More info here:

I see this is an old post and just wondered is it better to do the train or bus for this route? Also what company and where from? Are there any website links I can book in advance or check out the price? Are their toilets on the train or buses and air con?

Does post #7 really seem that old? And if you read it again, you'll find some of your Qs already answered.

Doesn't really matter much whether you choose bus or train IMO.

Buses can only be booked at the terminal a few hours before (not a problem though, 1 hour is usually enough). They don't have toilets, but halt en-route for meals at a place with facilities. The a/c bus fare is around the Rs. 300 mark. There are also fancy Volvo buses which cost more.

The trains have both a/c and non-a/c compartments, and toilets. Can be booked online - go through the Railways forum for more info. Usually need much more lead time to book than the buses though.

Train is better - the highway to Haridwar is congested and smell that often wafts through the windows is quite intolerable if your not used to it.
