Question day bus delhi - manali

Good information here! Can someone tell me more about the DAY bus from Delhi to Manali? How long will it take, were is the busstand, are there many stops? I have to go to Manali in one day, arrive in the middle of the night on the airport.

i recommend you travel by a NIGHT bus. get up one evening in delhi and the next morning you will be in manali. but if you really insist about the DAY bus, it takes about the same time as the night bus and deposits you in manali at around 7-8 in the evening. there arn't too many bus stops. i reckon there is more than one operator providing a day trip.

i arrive July 7, in the middle of the night: 00.50 am at delhi airport and must be in manali that evening (or early next morning July 8) to pick up some people to travel to Kaza. i think about train to chandigarh and then bus to manali, but it's not easy to find details (dep. time, how to make a reservation for train and bus, place of the busstand etc.).

thats tough. this really calls for expert advice from people who have actually done the day journey and/or live in delhi, so they can give you authentic info about which travel agency to contact.

all i can reassure you with is that day buses DO EXIST. when in manali, i myself saw buses from delhi pull up at about 6-7 in the evening.

yeah, really tough! i know that there are daybuses from delhi, at the ISBT. maybe i take the risk and trie to find a place in one of them. if not i still have my reservation for the nightbus - but that's my last choice, i hate night buses!

I really don't think that would be possible, Delhi - Manali by bus is roughly 14-15 hours so unless you get an early morning bus (4-6am), it would be really hard to reach Manali by night fall. Early next morning ought to be possible if you take the ~5pm bus from Delhi. Though I don't think any volvos leaves at that time, so you might just have to go in a regular bus from Haryana or Himachal roadways.

I think Himachal Roadways only has an overnight bus. It takes almost 16 hours (dep Delhi 6pm, arrive Manali 9:30am).

Not 100% sure but last time I was getting the tickets booked, I heard there was a bus at either 11 or 1o'clock. Of course Haryana roadways is there as well and in some respect is better than Himachal roadways.

HPTDC Volvo

I recently traveled by HPTDC Volvo from Delhi to Shimla and was disappointed by the overall condition of the bus. HPTDC has hired these buses from private operators and they are in a pretty bad shape. At least this one was. There was noise within the seats everytime I turned around. Seats were worn out and dirty. The AC was ok though.

Himachal Roadways (HRTC) have much better and maintained VOLVOs. I would recommend HRTC Volvos anytime to travel to Himachal

Vasuki,

I also need to take a day bus to manali next month. Reaching Delhi at 5:30 AM and have to reach Manali the same night.

Somehow your bets are better. You may not get a direct bus to manlai. You can hops into one of those comfortable buses to chandigarh which operate throughout the night. Reach Chandigarh early morning. There may be bus to manali from Chandiagarh(the ordinary roadways buses).
