Cycling: manali-leh-kargil-drass-srinagar

HI EVERYBODY,

now here is an exciting plan for the cycling enthu people. I am going for the mentioned route on 15 august,2008 on cycle. This xpedition will b for charity also. The money collected will be deposited to NGO . I am a software profesional from gurgaon.I went to leh this year 2007 on my bullet alone in month of october.

i know it is bit early to declare the trip but for this trip we need to have tremendous cycling skill and stamina. So i am starting my preparation from december this year. Anybody intrsted shud contact me .For strenght building we will go to long cycling rides around NCR every weekend.So guys be ready and participate as this will be for gud cause and adventure unlimited.

Hi Kunal

You must be an exceptionally brave individual. It will require trmendous physical fitness to cycle at 4000m, and you need to make sure that the individuals are exceptinally robust. I have seen people cycling on the Leh Manali route but they must be used to mountain biking and its hazards. Hope you find a few strong souls to travel with you. I would recommend CPX(CPET) testing ( www.cpxtesting.com ) for anyone who has not attempted this before.

Hi Kunal,

You have planned a very exciting & adventerous journey. This cycling journey is on my list of things to do but not in near future. Let me first visit Leh - Ladakh by car. I have been trying to go there since past 2 years but had to cancel it for one or the other reason.

It's all the more commendable when you are doing it for charity. I am sure you will find some like minded people to join you.

Meanwhile there is a thread on Leh - Srinagar cycling on IM if you have not gone through

In all probability, I will be in. I may be shifting from Hyd to Delhi/ Gurgaon. But am willing to push myself for this trip. Let me know what you have done so far for the trip in terms of fitness ... are there any benchmarks?

I have yet to decide on the leh-srinagar route though apprently that is the better road compared to leh-Manali but let us see ...

thanks for showing interst,,,,,well as far as fitness is concerned i am doing a lot of cardio and strength training...you can join our group at groups.yahoo.com\group\gocycli ng.....and place your wish to join our xpedition.....we only want few more people....the group will not more than 5 to 6 members..

Greetings. I have tentative plans to go to Peru this summer, but if that falls through I would love to join your bike trip. Is there still room? Also, will you be self-supported or taking a supply vehicle? Any idea what the overall time would be -- i assume you've factored in some rest days and tourism days? Hey I am also planning for Manali to Leh this year but not in August. We are two people preparing for it and most probably two more will join us soon. We all are from Delhi. We are planning for May - June. But let's see how it cooks. Best of luck to you!
