Conditions of road in triangle Ajmer/Pushkar - Shekhawati - Jaipur

Can anyone enlighten me on the conditions of the main roads (but _not_ the highway) in the triangle Ajmer/ Pushkar - Shekhawati - Jaipur? We are planning to drive from Pushkar via Kuchaman and Didwana and from there back to the highway 11 (from Jaipur to Shekhawati) to drive to Shekhawati.

(See http://www.mapsofindia.com/maps/raja...sthanroads.htm )

Are there, for instance, many potholes, is it tarred or rather sandy/rocky, do I have to expect goats and camels running about the place? How fast can we drive there?

And is there something worth pulling over for, according to you? Am I a dreamer or can we indeed have a look at watersprings/ oases closeby and perhaps even have a gaze at the Sambhar Salt Lake?

Thanks in advance..

The highways ARE the main road...everything else is, well, something else. Compared to many places in India, the backroads of Rajasthan are in very good shape, but it is all relative. Yes ofcourse there will goats, sheep, camels, horses, oxcarts, tractors, bicycles, cars, trucks, and people including extremely young children who often go to the edge of the road to "go to the bathroom". The condition of the road will vary from kilometer to kilometer. Repairs are done largely by hand, by women, and do not always last long, especially if it rains. In some places you'll need to travel at 25 kph, especially as you pass through a populated area (watch out for said children)and in other stretches you'll get up to a whopping 65 kph. So go slow when you need to, and, enjoy!

Thanks a lot for this info!

Strangely enough I actually look forward to experiencing what you just describe, but then again I might still be a bit naive.. Hopefully we will have a good cabdriver

If we decide to actually do this, I will post a follow-up..

Car on narrow roads

there is no problem to travel on these roads. Our many tourist cars make journey on these roads. Only the thing is that these are single roads but Indian taxi drivers are very much experianced to drive on such roads.

Bon Voyage
