Coimbatore - Munnar connection

Hi,
Is there a direct bus connection between Coimbatore and Munnar?
if yes:
- how many times a day?
- how long does the trip take?
if not:
- what's the best connection between those to places?
Thanks a lot

Hi,

There are 2 options:

1) locally run buses between Coimbatore & Munnar are frequent.Though the buses themselves may not be luxurious in terms of reclining seats etc..distance is 150 kms
2) When I was last in Munnar & was exploring the option to go to Coimbatore, I was told to take a cab from Munnar to Ernakulam Railway Stn & thereon catch a train to Coimbatore.

Lets wait for other members to give more specific inputs..

Basically its via Pollachi Udumalpettai to Munnar. Should take 3-4hrs. Check the road route on mapmyindia.com and physical topograph on Google Earth. If you want to go by private car I can recommend Mr Jagadeesh in Coimbatore 91 9442370007. He is honest, reliable and reasonable. We always use him for our trips to the region. You can also visit the Top Slip - Anamalai sanctuary / Parambikulam, its very close to Pollachi enroute.

That is ridiculous to go all the way SW to Ernakulam and thence to CJB, whereas CJB is NE of Munnar, barely 4 hrs away !

Syn,

Ter's some plce nr Pollachi I guess..I forgot the name had read about it in one of the JET magazines..Its a nice scenic place & had something to do with the Ramayan..The article also lamented the fact that the hillscape was now dotted with 'crosses'.

Would you happen to know the name..the place has some connection with Sita/episodes in Ramayan

No I havent heard about this Ramayana connection, would be interesting to learn more. What do you mean "crosses'? Like in Christian crosses? There are many hills in Kerala which are Christian pilgrimage sites and have the stations of the cross all the way up the hill, there are some near Nelliyampathy and Vagamon - Kurisumala [Christ mountain], bound to be many more. But I havent heard about a Ramayana site. Perhaps some one else can enlighten us.

Well Christianity has been around in Kerala since 6AD, so there are bound to be many such pilgrimage sites.
