Not sure if you can rent a car seat but if there is a facility it might be with car rental companies like Hertz or Avis. both are in Delhi.
Incase you want to buy, I saw few at 'Lifestyle' at Lajpat nagar and at Shopper's stop at Ansal Plaza.

should mention here that India does not even have a seat belt requirement for adult rear passengers in most (all?) states, so car seats are uncommon.

so, better to go where people like vinay have seen car seats, they may not be available easily.

Car seat?

This is a country in which children are held in their mother's arms ---on a motor bike!

This is the regular configuration for a family on a scooter:

From the front....

1. (in front of driver) child (3 or 4 yrs old)standing on footboard with hands on handlebars.

2. Driver.

3. Older child.

4. Mother.

5. Baby in mother's arms.

....And no, this is not at all exceptional.

The other day I saw a woman passenger on a bike carrying a gas cylinder. Sheesh, even empty that's 15 Kilos, full it would be double that....

Whenever I see the things mentioned by Nick (many times a day in India) I think of them going round Trafalgar Square with a panic stricken policeman trying to catch them.

I think of how absolutely astonished they would be at a British policeman finding anything at all wrong, let alone criminal, in their behaviour!

We saw one such group on a bike a few weeks ago, but what made this particular sighting unusual was the utter enormity of the woman of the family!

Car seats for a child can be bought at the car accessories market at Lajpat Nagar in south Delhi.
I doubt if car rental companies or any taxis will have a child seat.

I had a chat with one such family on a two wheeler and asked them whether they were aware of the risk they were taking. Yes, they said, they were fully aware but had no choice. They could not afford to buy a car and getting onto a overcrowded public bus or train was quite impossible. When alone, the driver would use public transport as it was the cheapest but when with his family he used his two wheeler.

Regarding the OP, car seats are available for purchase from Mothercare, usually located at Shopper's Stop.

This is exactly the reason why Tata Motors launched the "Rs One Lakh" passenger car development project, which Mr Ratan Tata feels, will cater to this segment of India's middle class which currently has to commute on two wheelers out of economic necessity.

Bet they still don't use the seatbelts, though --- continuing to put many children at the risk of a quick and lethal exit via the windscreen

I see there's a parallel thread here re car seats (which has of course been taken over by the seat belt discussion as usual ).....

Capt, the law is that in any car manufactured after Oct 2002, it is a legal requirement for rear-seat passengers to have the belt ON!
Bet u didn't know that, did u?
Nor do any of the cops.
Never seen anyone being challaned for it.

I realise that this thread is quite old, so the OP is probably no longer interested. But I just checked the Hertz site (who offer child seats, boosters, etc. at almost every one of their worldwide locations. No such luch with Dilli though - no surprises there, I suppose.
