Chennai airport to Mamallapuram at 3.00 AM
Hello all,
we will arrive at Chennai airport at about 3.00 AM and want to travel on to Mamallapuram. What advice would you give us? Take a taxi direct from the aiport? Go to the busstation in Chennai and take a bus from there to Mamallapuram? Or other options? Thanks, olav |

That depends entirely on how much you want to spend.
I don't think that there are any other options other than bus or car, although it might be possible to catch your bus from Tambaram, which is closer to the airport. I'd go by car: vastly simpler, especially after a long international flight. Actually, I'd recover from the flight in Chennai --- and then move on, but perhaps you have already rejected that option. |

Thanks for your reply,
it is not such a long flight, only 5 hours, and arriving in the middle of the night is not ideal but the only flight available. I would rather skip Chennai and move on straight away. But riding in a taxi in the middle of the night does not appeal much. Could we spend a couple of hours at the airport waiting for daylight? thanks olav |

I had made the assumption that you were flying from Amsterdam, and flying from London is nine hours. A five-hour flight is, indeed, not so bad at all.
If you are landing at 3.00am, it may be 4.00am before you have your baggage and are ready to leave the airport. It will start to get light by 6.00am, so if you want to hang around until then, it is not very long to wait. Bruce is right about the traffic, though. I don't think that the Ambassador cars are any safer: it is the driver that matters! |
