Car/Taxi Travel Bangalore/Mysore and Mt. Abu/Udaipur

Hi, I'm not that brave a traveller in one area - I really really don't like buses in India! I've only taken one, and it was a totally straight road between Jodhpur and Jaiselmer and I almost fainted away every time the bus moved semi off the road to let the tanks go by!

So - this trip we're travelling Mt. Abu to Udaipur and would like to take a car. Has anyone done this? What's the road like - it looks mountainous between the two cities...

And what about Bangalore to Mysore (actually we're travelling to the nature preserve past Mysore but the name of it is stuck somewhere in my mind and won't come out). Anyone taken this trip by car?

There is a lot of work being done on the Bangalore-Mysore road, make sure you get a car and driver from a decent agency.

If you're heading towards Bandipur-Mudumalai, the road from Mysore is all right. If you're heading towards Nagarhole-Kabini, the road from Mysore is AWFUL. Be prepared to bounce around.

Yes I have been there. Not sure of where you're staying, if it is one of the private resorts (Kapila or Water Woods) ask them to recommend a taxi service.

The taxi will take you on the Mysore-Manantoddy (Manavantady?) road, but a better, though slightly longer, route is Mysore-Hunsur-Murkal-HD Kote-Hand Post-Kabini.

I hope you have excellent game sightings!

bangalore-mysore

i had driven on the bangalore-mysore stretch a few months back and it was more or less dug up everywhere as part of the road-widening exercise . ( dont know whether they have completed it - the entire stretch was being converted to a 4-lane road) . It took us around 4 hrs to cover the distance.

beyond mysore ( we proceeded in the mudumalai direction ) the road was a dream.

have a nice trip - lot of lovely places to see around the areas you are visiting..
