Car and Driver

Would it be possible to hire a car and driver between these cities:

Bodhgaya to Varanasi
Khajuraho to Agra with a stopover in Orchha
Agra to Jaipur with a stopover in Fatehpur Sikri

It would be for four people with one carry-on luggage for each person. We would want an air-conditioned vehicle. Could you give me an idea what it would cost for these trips?

Thank you.

Thank you, DrRudi. However, I'm looking to hire a car and driver rather than join a group tour.

Hi,
try Mr. Kumar at
narendra_newdelhi@yahoo.com

He's driving us around rajasthan in nov, 16 days for Euro 450,-
(aprox. 560,- US) 3 persons. Excl. our acc + food.
Incl. fuel, taxes, his acc + food, english speaking guide at several monuments.
We made our own itinerary.
A few friends/relatives of us already used his services and he is
highly recommended.

Have fun,
greetings Josefa

we often hire a car+driver to drop us to another place. Since we are just with two we hire small cars, nowadays prices start at 8 rs per kilometer, you also have to pay for the retour trip of the driver.
If you hire a car for more days there is an extra allowance for the driver.
It is easy to organize this when you are in India, use a local travel agency or ask your hotel.
Here you can find some prices.

TRAVEL

We have a wide range of vehicles, suitable for many different travelling options.

All our vehicles are driven by professional drivers who take great pride in their work and who know the routes they cover thoroughly. In the main tourist regions of India (Rajasthan/Delhi/Agra and Tamil Nadu/Kerala/Karnataka) most drivers have a good level of English language and can provide insights into life and the things you will see along the way. In other regions such as Gujarat, West Bengal/Sikkim, Orissa and the mountainous regions of the north, drivers often understand English but don’t have the confidence to speak the language. In these areas we recommend using an accompanying guide to ensure that you maximise your experience and understanding of India. The vehicles themselves are well maintained and are fully insured and licensed according to Indian Government regulations. All our vehicles are air-conditioned. We recommend air-conditioning for your comfort and to ensure better air-quality when travelling in cities, however on some hill routes air-conditioning may not be possible as it diminishes engine power - this will occur only briefly and/or in situations when the outside temperature is cooler and air-conditioning is not essential.

Car hire is a very affordable option in India. Prices vary according to the size of the vehicle, the region of travel and the route travelled. But as a guideline, prices start from $50US a day inclusive of driver, fuel, interstate taxes, parking, road tolls and driver's expenses.

Tata Indigo - A modern luxury sedan vehicle, suitable for 2 to 3 people travelling together. From $50US per day.

Tavera - A mid-range vehicle suitable for 2 or 3 people travelling together. The Tavera has plenty of luggage space and will easily accommodate a guide on the days when you have one with you. Also a particularly good option when travelling in mountainous areas and those parts of the country where the roads can be poor. A vehicle that sits higher above the road ensures a smoother ride. From $60US per day. (Available in south India only)

Toyota Innova - Toyota’s luxury touring vehicle suitable for 2-4 people travelling together in a high degree of comfort and plenty of luggage space and amenities. The Innova will easily accommodate a guide on the days when you have one with you. Also a particularly good option when travelling in mountainous areas and those parts of the country where the roads can be poor. A vehicle that sits higher above the road ensures a smoother ride. From $70US per day.

The role of the Tourist Driver in India is a little unique. It is near impossible to be a self drive tourist due to the road rules, road conditions and lack of maps, signposts or other information.

The driver is there to assist you with all your small requirements throughout your trip, showing you small places of interest along the way and describing different socio-cultural things you will see — marriages, funerals, festivals and other parts of daily life. The car is with you "on disposal" to go out for dinner in the evenings or take short excursions to places close to your main destination. We want you to experience the most you can and do not have hard and fast rules about the kilometres driven.

We value our drivers as they add many levels to your travel experience, they pass on feedback about hotels, new places etc.

They are not licensed guides and cannot take you inside monuments or temples to give detailed explanations.

It is usual for drivers to sleep in the car, they get an overnight allowance but most choose to sleep in the car rather than take a room. They feel it is a good security cover for the car and they are also onsite if you need any assistance.

Various types of vehicles are available — we will recommend the appropriate one for the number of people travelling in your party.

Most travel in India runs smoothly and with a minimum of hassle for you. In the unlikely event of problems occurring, our drivers have either a mobile phone or quick access to communication with any of our offices to enable difficulties to be overcome and allow you to get on with your holiday.

This is a good price. The thumb rule for most independent agencies with a national T(ourist) license plate; was (feb '12 rates) 10Rs/km for a medium sized car with minimum 200-250 Km/day plus Rs 150/night for the driver.
