Ambassador Nothing is better to me than an Ambassador (Elite, if you can find one) Extremely comfortable. Much bigger than most rental cars, and at a lower price because they are seen as "old fashioned" and not "speedy and cool" like a little Indica. Travelled around Rajasthan last year for three weeks in my favorite form of travel in India, The Ambassador. Average cost was about US 30 to 35 a day. Our driver was wonderful...truly a great person to be spending so much time with. Truly, a great car and driver can really make your trip around Rajasthan a wonderful trip. My husband and I made our arrangements through Jasvilas in Jaipur: http://www.indiamike.com/reviews/sho...uct/354/cat/33 The owners will give you a fair deal, but you must INSIST they get you an Ambassador or you will look elsewhere for a car/driver. Initially they tried to steer us into an Indica, but I said "Ambassador or Nothing!" I do also love train travel, but if you have limited time and the money to do it, car/driver is fast and fun. You can also contact Jasvilas about a car, they will arrange to send one up to Delhi to pick you up and take you to Jaipur and onwards. I believe in 17 days you can do the route we took...hey, we're old and slow, so we need at least a couple of nights in each place, which you may not really need to do. We did: Jaipur 2 nights Pushkar 2 nights Bikaner 3 nights Jaisalmer 4 nights Jodphur 2 nights ending in Udaipur for 3 nights and flying back to Delhi to spend a few more days and go home. Indica is only good for one thing....... ![]() Last edited by SitaParityaga; Nov 22nd, 2006 at 10:20..

Depends on how much you are willing to spend and what kinda car you want/how many of you are there? I am not too sure of the prices though but If you are looking to hire an SUV - Tata Safari is the best bet for good view and comfort. In cars, HM Ambassador is most widely used. You do get all kinda cars these days like Camry, Civic, Skoda Octavia, Corolla - you need to decide on the budget. Also, you might have an altogether different definition of "comfort" - so kindly confirm.

try Ambassador, comfort, legspace, big dicky at back to hold your big luggages, good cushioning and suspension, powerful engine and chasis, can run on village roads like jeep where no other so-called little beauties cannot think of. The good old Amby looks like a car but performs like a jeep, and this at a reasonable price.
