Smile Buying A Used Car

Hi, does anybody know if it's OK for me to buy a used car from any other state and drive or rail freight it to Kolkata?

I have seen a few cars for sale through Team-BHP.com and I was wondering if anyone here has done something similar?

Thanks.

Yes you can drive or transport the car to any state, as long as you get a NOC from the state the car was registered, as the owner to provide you with one.

Noc?

Hi, I'm assuming this means No Objection Certificate?

Are you saying that the seller gives me that cert, or do I get it from somewhere else, such as the police in that other state?

Also, what documents should I get from the seller if I buy a used car?

Thanks.

Why don't you buy a car at Kolkata itself ?

If you have to buy from any other place, check for the organised market. Maruti Suzuki, sells used cars. Mahinda Auto also sells second hand cars....

This way paperwork is guaranteed......

It's not quite that simple!

You will have to (if it is not just a visit) change the registration to the state the car is moving to.

Ins and outs of this sort of stuff are probably covered on Team-BHP as thoroughly as tourist visas are here! For car stuff --- it's the place to be!

Hi, thanks guys fro being so informative, I will contact both Suzuki and Mahindra when I get to Kolkata this July.

Thanks again, you're right better to buy from Kolkata than to have the aggro of sorting out all the unneccessary paperwork if I get a car from out of state.

Have a good one to all!!
