If you wanna go for North, then land in New Delhi. There are hell loads of dealers you can get here who sell good Enfields. My suggestion to you is to get RE 535 Lightning which has hell loads of Torgue for climbing up hills... Good reliable dealers .... Well ... I need to check ... and let you know by tommorow ... Good Condition RE350 (1998) would cost you Rs 30K A new RE was for Sale 2005 Model last week which was sold for Rs 60k RE is by far the best Touring bike you could puchase .... as for 2 people + luggauge .... If you are planing to Cross borders ... please make sure that you check the papers of the bike before buying ... If you are comin to Delhi ... I would help you with REs arround Delhi area ![]() |

Hi Maik welcome to IndiaMike, regarding purchasing motorcycles and esp the an RE you have few choices. In case you have lots of luggage and wants to tour with a pillion and dont care that much about fuel economy (about cutting it to almost half!) then look no further then the RE500. It’s a great tourer esp if you got lots of luggage.
In case you are interested in better fuel economy then you can go in for RE bullet 350std, Electra, Machismo or Thunderbird. They are just as good, but slightly low on torque compared to the 500. For more information regarding Royal Enfield Motorcycles and for the ExShowroom price of their new bikes you can visit www.royalenfield.com Don’t know much about Calcutta, but in Delhi you can buy a new/old or in case you are interested get one on rent from the numerous dealers. In case you want to rent one and are thinking of going to Nepal make sure the dealer provides you with all the necessary papers in original not the photo copied one. As far as mounting luggage goes, you can get luggage racks built for your motorcycle from Karol Bagh in Delhi. In case you are interested in going in for saddlebags instead of the luggage racks, you can order them from www.cramster.in. In case you need any help drop a line here , hope you have a pleasant journey |

A carnet is like a passport for your vechicle. Its a document that you show as you enter and leave a country and then proves that you didn't try to sell your vechicle illegally in that country.
If your not a resident then no you are not allowed to purchase a vechicle. There are places that you can organise a buy back option at the end of your trip, it really is still renting the bike. Also some people start their trips in Bangladesh where you can purchase without issues. |

Check out http://lallisingh.com
I would suggest you to rent out a bike than to buy it ! Lalli singh has a wide range of bikes and they also train you on repairs and fixes in case It breaks down. He will supply you all the tools with guidance on their usage. He's a very professional guy with equally professional workers. I have posted a few links and galleries of the people who rented out the bikes from Lalli Singh and toured whole India. |

Have you been to India before, and ridden much on a bike there? The road surface and the way Indians drive on it are both attrocious!! I can think of nothing worse than spending hours on a motorbike chugging the huge distances that make up India, and what's the point anyway, when the public transport is so very good and cheap? Also, you will need to find some way to travel with your belongings, so you will need to get special bags and panniers organised, and maybe store your backpack somewhere before you set off. Then you need to think about security: when you stop to see some site of interest, or stop for the night at a hotel, you need to make sure your bike and your gear won't be stolen. And what if it breaks down: Indian bikes aren't as reliable as other ones. Are you a good mechanic? Such a lot of hassle - why bother? If you really like motorbikes, it might be just as fun to hire a bike locally for a few days - many places do this: Goa, Manali, and lots of other tourist spots. Tim in Ireland
